The Champs-Elysees were filled with tens of thousands of football fans on Sunday to watch Paris Saint-Germain’s players and staff parade the Champions League trophy through Paris, France, before a major celebration at their home stadium.
After a 5-0 defeat at Inter Milan in the final on Saturday, the team traveled by bus directly from Munich to Roissy Airport. Along the way, numerous enthusiastic supporters welcomed them.
Some clubs had flags or flares, while others all wished their teams had won the first-ever trophy in European club football.
As they drove, the players addressed the crowd and brandished the trophy, all of whom had ’25’ on them.
Their emblematic captain Marquinhos yelled, “Let’s sing all together.”
After the game, French President Emmanuel Macron addressed the team at a reception at the Elysee palace, where they were led by coach Luis Enrique and his team, including Desire Doue, the 19-year-old who scored twice in the impressive performance from Saturday.
He declared, “You are the champions and have elevated Paris to the top of the world.”
“There were 11 of you on the field, but there was clearly a twelfth man,” Macron said, gleefully appreciative of his own loyalty to PSG’s rival club, the Olympique de Marseille.
After the final whistle on Saturday night, the president was quick to denounce the violence that had harmed the capital’s and other French celebrations.
After more than 200 cars were torched and police clashed with youths, police in France made nearly 600 arrests, according to the interior ministry.
A 17-year-old boy was stabbed in the chest in Dax, southwest of the city.
A 23-year-old scooter rider in central Paris also died after being struck by a car.
After being hurt by a firework, a police officer was placed in an induced coma.
The violent clashes are unacceptable, according to Macron, who said nothing could justify what has occurred in recent hours.
“We will fight back, we will punish, and we will be relentless.”
Macron also expressed his gratitude to the club’s players for quickly outright condemning the violence.
The club said on Sunday, “These isolated acts are contrary to the club’s values and do not in any way represent the majority of our supporters, whoseexemplary behavior throughout the season deserves praise.”
A Premier League victory parade by Liverpool Football Club in the English city ended in horrifying scenes after a car ploughed into the crowd, leaving 79 people injured, so police were on high alert to stop any repetition of Saturday’s scene.
PSG will celebrate at their Parc des Princes home ground as the day’s festivities come to an end.

‘Win again,’

PSG became only the second French team after Marseille in 1993 to win the European championship while receiving an estimated 11.8 million viewers on French television.
The Champions League or the European Cup that followed had the greatest margin of victory in a final.
Since purchasing an ailing club in 2011, Qatar Sports Investments has invested hundreds of millions of euros in PSG, but over the past few seasons they have turned their back on their previous policy of signing players like Neymar and Lionel Messi and instead have concentrated on young French talent.
Doue established himself as a rising star in international football. The fifth goal was scored by Senny Mayulu, a second-year-old who was substituted toward the end.
Everyone in the dressing room sprang into action in their own way, Mayulu said after the game, “people were filled with joy and pride,” Mayulu said.
After winning the final five years, PSG claimed that they planned to win more than they had previously made.
“We want to win again,” said PSG President Nasser al-Khelaifi. “We are building something for the future after 14 years of hard work.”
