This Morning star Josie Gibson has revealed how she lost an incredible five stone – and it’s not by using jabs, which aid weight loss or by having surgery
This Morning star Josie Gibson has revealed the secret behind her incredible five stone weight loss, dismissing claims she has used weight loss injections or had a gastric bypass. Big Brother winner Josie embarked on a ‘1970s diet’ challenge this year – one of the methods she used to slim down and change her body.
On Channel 5’s The 1970s Diet: Could it Work for You? Josie explores stripped back eating, cutting portion sizes and sugar intake, and focusing on foods such as boiled potatoes, liver, spam, pork, beans, and Angel Delight. As well as her retro diet, 40-year-old Josie took up intermittent fasting for three days a week, and a simple gym routine, plus extras like disco-dancing classes.
The mum-of-one was recently diagnosed with lipedema, which causes disproportionate fat build-up. She has been open about her weight issues, having swung between a size 8 and 20 over the years. In her book, The Josie Gibson Diet, Josie revealed she lost almost five stone (68lbs) in six months by cutting out sugar.

In a recent Instagram post, Josie hit back at claims she’d had medication or surgery to drop weight. She wrote: “I didn’t get a gastric bypass; I got off my big a**e, moved more, ate less and educated myself on what I was stuffing into my body.”
Speaking previously to the Mirror, Josie explained the logic behind the 1970s diet – with only about 10 percent of British people classed as obese during that era. She said: “I was surprised by that. I think of the 1970s and I think of madeira cake, trifles, angel delight… it doesn’t scream healthy – not to me!”
Although she was handed a plan by a nutritionist, Josie was shocked to see what was on the menu, worrying she would fail the challenge to drop the pounds. She said: “There were a lot of carbs on the menu. I thought looking at the diet, I’d definitely put on weight.”
On the show, she had her weight and body fat recorded, and was shocked to find she was 16 stones and had 48 percent body fat. She added: “If I’m taking on this experiment, then I’m showing it all, that’s the experiment. If you don’t show the experiment, what’s the point?”
To reach her new weight, Josie has also been hitting the gym, focusing on whole foods and prioritising protein in her diet. She recently shared a video on Instagram, showing her incorporating weights into her fitness routine.
A recent post saw her hitting the gym as she revealed to her fans she had been diagnosed with lipedema. It was captioned: “Hope this inspires someone out there…not that I think I’m an inspiration…Im just one of those who is constantly fighting my genetics. I was diagnosed with lipodema last year which I always knew anyway.
“So the fight is real as my body retains fat unlike a normal body should. I have not shared because I thought it looked pretty obvious anyway. I have been working out more and here is a circuit I completed at the @anantaramaikhao gym..I would love to build a gym like this. Gyms can be intimidating sometimes but we are all there for the same reason and I love getting stuck into my own little circuits.”
Josie was also previously forced to deny claims she’d had a gastric bypass after she revealed her incredible weight loss. Writing on social media, she shared: “I didn’t get a gastric bypass; I got off my big a**e, moved more, ate less and educated myself on what I was stuffing into my body.”
The star also followed MuscleFood’s Do The Unthinkable plan, which included portioned, macro-counted meals and workout plans. She added that the plan included a day off a week, writing: “Now on that one day off, I had one cheat meal.
“I didn’t go crazy and drink 10 bottles of wine and binge all day on food and chocolate and all the naughty things I haven’t been having. I just had my one cheat and that was it. So if you’ve got that one day off, don’t undo all your hard work. Just have your one cheat meal and enjoy it. Don’t have a binge.”
