The most expensive sports collectable card ever sold at auction for a signed basketball card signed by Michael Jordan and Kobe Bryant for a record sum of $9.5 million ($12.9 million).
The card, which Heritage Auctions in the United States named the 2007-08 Upper Deck Exquisite Collection Dual Logoman Autographs Jordan &, Bryant card, was sold.
Its previous owner had owned it for more than ten years, and when it went to auction, it was valued at £4.4 million ($6 million) or higher. The estimate was more than doubled, so 82 bids were then submitted.
The winning offer was superior to the 1952 Topps Mickey Mantle card, which was sold for $ 12.62 million in August of that year despite the fact that this was the same as £10.8 million.
Baseball legend Babe Ruth’s 1932 World Series “called the shot” jersey, which sold for £18.12 in August 2024, is the second most expensive sports collectible ever.
Chris Ivy, director of sports auctions for Heritage, described the Jordan-Bryant card as “the pinnacle” for contemporary card collectors.
He continued, “Another one can’t be created” and has always been seen as the “holy grail” by contemporary basketball enthusiasts.
“The estimated value of the pre-auction was $6 million or more. Therefore, allowing a piece to have its day when it is truly special like this is sometimes beneficial,” Ivy said.
Jordan won six NBA championships with the Chicago Bulls between 1991 and 1998, and is widely regarded as the greatest player in NBA history.
