JoJo Siwa announced the news a day after she openly revealed her sexuality journey at a Pride event in Chicago that she will no longer participate in a weekend Pride celebration there.
JoJo Siwa has abruptly pulled out of a gay pride performance just hours after revealing she felt “pressured” to brand herself a lesbian. The 22-year-old American singer has been on a high profile romantic journey since April this year when she met Love Island star Chris Hughes in the UK Celebrity Big Brother house.
Over the course of their time inside the house, viewers watched as the pair grew closer and closer together. When JoJo started dating an Australian content creator called Kath Ebbs, eyebrows were raised.
After the Dance Moms star’s exit, Kath almost immediately dumped him, and it later became known that she and Chris, 32, had a romantic relationship. JoJo, who identified as queer, explained this week that she had been subjected to pressure to declare herself a lesbian.
And it has been revealed that she has decided to withdraw from performing at an LGBTQ+ event later this month. She had scheduled a performance at the Chicago Back Lot Bash on June 29 for the Chicago Pride Sunday party.
However, the organization made a sudden announcement on Saturday morning that this would no longer be the case. Without giving further details, the venue announced on social media that JoJo Siwa will no longer be performing at Chicago’s Back Lot Bash due to a scheduling conflict.
The Mirror has contacted a representative of JoJo for comment. The abrupt cancellation follows news that the star had cancelled a planned tour.
She stated earlier this month on her official website that “my US tour has to be postponed.” Before you know it, I’ll be back playing for all the gorgeous Americans… Soon, announcements will be made, including some events in Europe! :)”

She was canceled from her Chicago Pride debut the day after giving a sincere interview to the Daily Mail about her sexual journey. She told the publication, “When I was 17 years old, I said, I’m pansexual, because I don’t care about gender. But then I kind of swore I was gay and said, “I’m a lesbian.” And I believe I did it as a result of pressure.
She continued: “‘In a weird way, I think [the pressure] came a little bit from inside the [LGBTQ] community at times. From people I know, from partners I’ve had.
“You just get put in this world where you feel like, because you now have said, ‘Oh, I’m a lesbian’, you have to be a lesbian. And the truth is, sexuality is fluid.”
JoJo addressed the ongoing scrutiny she’s been facing as fans have dissected her love life in a recent conversation with TMZ. The truth is that love is a beautiful rainbow, and I believe the LGBTQIA+ community needs to remember that. I believe that many people have learned a lot from the hate within the community, which I believe many people can learn from, and I’m one of those people.
I believe I can demonstrate once more that love is love, and that you can be content.
Fans could soon see a lot more of JoJo and Chris and their apparent blossoming love – as rumours abound that ITV is preparing to offer them a reality show of their own.
ITV, according to a source, said: “It’s still in the early stages, but ITV really think they’d be amazing TV with their own show. There are so many TikTok accounts dedicated to their love story because people all over the world are so obsessed with their relationship.
