Once the current season of MasterChef is over, Gregg Wallace and John Torode will no longer be able to film any episodes of the show.

John Torode’s next career move “could very well make or break his TV career”, following his sacking from MasterChef, a PR specialist has suggested. Last month, it was revealed that the chef’s contract with the BBC show would not be renewed due to an upheld racism allegation.

John, 60, claimed in a statement that he had no memory of the alleged racist term he was accused of using and that he had only learned from media reports that he had been fired from the show.

John’s co-presenter Gregg Wallace will also not be returning to the show after several misconduct allegations were upheld in the same investigation, commissioned by MasterChef’s producer Banijay UK, and carried out by law firm Lewis Silkin.

While John may not be back for another series of MasterChef, he is still believed to be employed by ITV.

For now, his and his wife Lisa Faulkner’s show John and Lisa’s Weekend Kitchen will continue to air, and ITV reportedly have plans for the pair to front Christmas specials.

Kayley Cornelius claims that John’s future on-screen is “temperamental” despite this.

She thinks that if no further allegations against him are made, he might be able to “win back public support” and carry on with his on-screen career with the support of ITV. However, the figures the show produces are likely to affect this.

“Although ITV appear to be offering him a lifeline for now by continuing their support, I suspect that could change at the drop of a hat if it turns out this wasn’t an isolated incident and more reports of similar language come to light,” she said, speaking on behalf of Betfred.

“John’s next steps will be crucial and could very well make or break his TV career,” he said.

She continued, “Should he take responsibility for his actions, apologize to those he upsets or disappointeds, and demonstrate clear growth since the incident?” I do think that based on current online sentiment, he has a chance to win back some popular support.

He will need to accept that some people may not be able to regain their trust in all.

“His success and TV career will depend on public support, despite the fact that he may have ITV’s security for a short while.

Because “account numbers are crucial to the future of any television program and the funding it receives,” the show could be canceled if he doesn’t win back viewers.

The PR expert added that John might be “pushed out of the industry altogether” if ITV made a “disagreement.”

She also points out that producers are likely to be reluctant to replace him if it is necessary because broadcasting is becoming more competitive and talent is expanding.

This Wednesday, Gregg and John made their first appearance on the BBC’s MasterChef program. The hosts were eliminated before the episodes were filmed, but Irish chef Anna Haugh, according to The Independent, will replace Greg in the final episodes.
