Joe Minjares dead: The Truman Show actor dies after battle with pneumonia

Joe Minjares, 79, is a reportedly battling pneumonia, and he has passed away. The stand-up comic and restauranteur passed away after receiving treatment for pneumonia and lung-related issues, according to the Minnesota Star Tribune.

The actor’s most notable roles include Jim Carrey and Roseanne, a bartender opposite Jim Carrey, and the medical drama ER. Lizz Winstead, who co-created the Daily Show on numerous stand-up comedy tours with Joe, hailed the actor on Facebook.

She remarked, “We lost the wonderful Joe Minjares, another great from the Twin Cities Comedy community.”

He was a kind and generous person who took the Parkway Theater and brought a comedy to Minneapolis, which is where I hang my hat when I play in town. He was a funny person.

Joe deserves a lot of my gratitude for his commitment to bringing forth edgy and creative shows that delivered the power that Joe deserves. Joe, I appreciate your friendship and for making this warm setting a home for my show.

Five of his children, eleven grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren remain.

In 1988, Joe began acting for the movie Patti Rocks. In Roseanne, NYPD Blue, and the Woody Harrelson movie Wilson, he later appeared in smaller roles.

Joe and his wife Sue opened the Tex-Mex restaurant Pepitos in Minnesota in addition to acting. Additionally, he held the Parkway Theatre and other restaurants in the Twin Cities.

For all his success in the restaurant and show business, Joe was all about his family, according to community theater owner Jack Reuler.

Joe’s natural writing talent was really tapped into in his plays, according to his publicist and close friend Martin Keller. Hollywood liked his appearance, too.

Joe was born and raised in Minnesota before joining the intelligence division of the US Army. From 1964 to 1968, he served in the Vietnam War.

He left the army and began a stand-up career in the neighborhood. He has opened for famous comedians like Jerry Seinfeld, Jeff Foxworthy, and Andrew Dice Clay, among others.
