ABC pulled Jimmy Kimmel’s long-running TV talk show after he recently suggested Tyler Robinson, the man accused of fatally shooting Kirk at a university in Utah, was associated with the Make America Great Again movement.
Jimmy Kimmel, a comedienne, has been in hot water after making controversial remarks about Charlie Kirk’s passing. This is not his first time getting in rows.
At the 2024 Academy Awards, host Jimmy Kimmel made a bold move when he read aloud a critical post from Donald Trump, who had mocked his performance and the show.
His wife, Molly McNearney, 47, co-executive producer of the telecast, had pleaded with him to ignore Trump’s words and not air them. In a recent interview, Molly said she “wasn’t proud of her warning”, saying she misjudged the situation.
The moment came late in the ceremony, when a post from Truth Social by Trump declared: “Has there EVER been a WORSE HOST than Jimmy Kimmel at The Oscars… His opening was … disjointed, boring … MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!”

Kimmel, 57, tried to stop him from reading it, including his own wife. According to Molly, “I told you, Please don’t read this,” Trump won’t be given any Oscars, please. We have the only opportunity to avoid discussing him here.
The comedian insisted on reading the comment despite her reservations. When producers asked him not to deliver the line, he insisted, “Yes, I am.” He also threw a punch in his response, “Isn’t it past your jail time?”
One of the more popular comedy moments of the night was a “nude” John Cena performing with only an envelope covering him during a streaker-spoof stunt related to the Oscars incident of 1974.
Producers were reportedly uneasy, having had extensive planning, side conversations, and having taste concerns. In retrospect, Molly acknowledged that she didn’t want to risk ending the show “on a bad note” or provoking more controversy.
She noted that while being married to the host can make things tense, she had a strong desire to guard the ceremony from political animosities.
Although controversial, Kimmel’s choice received a lot of positive feedback from viewers who believed it made a comedic counterpoint to attacks.
The audience’s response to his retort and reading the post was strong at the time. I promise you, I’ll never have to get into a fight with my family again! funny Mickey jokes
The couple officially began dating in 2010, almost eight years after Jimmy’s first marriage ended, and they tied the knot in Ojai, California, in 2013. They got engaged in 2012 on a safari in South Africa (Kruger National Park). They have two children.
