After the Little Mix star revealed their daughters had been diagnosed with spinal muscular atrophy, Jesy Nelson’s partner Zion Foster has shared a new photo of them.
After receiving the devastating health news that Ocean Jade, her eight-month twins, were receiving, the singer claimed she had undergone “the most gruelling three or four months.” Progressive muscle weakness and wasting are a result of motor neuron loss in the genetic neuromuscular disease. Jessica, 34, expressed her sadness by stating that the condition “affects every muscle in the body, including the legs, arms, breathing, and swallowing,” adding that “essentially what it does over time is it kills the muscles in the body.”
Her partner Zion, who made the proposal in September, has since shared his own hopeful message.
The girls’ father showed a brand-new photo of them, claiming that they were “smiling through the challenges.”
He continued, “Daddy loves you so much.”
After three and four months of trying things out, Jesy revealed to the fans that the girls have now been diagnosed with SMA Type 1, a severe muscular condition.
There is no known cure for SMA, according to Jesy, who described the twins’ treatment plan from Great Ormond Street Hospital in London as “a very quick process because time is of of essence with this disease.”
She referred to the girls as receiving “urgent care,” which I am so appreciative of because they would not survive without it.
I feel like I have to become a nurse because I have to put them on breathing machines and do things that no mothers should have to do with their children because there have been endless hospital appointments.
The most heartbreaking time of my life has been spent with Jesy, she said. My entire life has done a 180, in my opinion. I almost feel as though I’m grieving for my children’s lives.
“I firmly believe that my girls will overcome any obstacles with the right assistance and carry out impossible tasks.”
The singer documented complications on social media, including twin-to-twin transfusion syndrome (TTTS), which she had during her pregnancy.
The NHS says that TTTS can have “grave consequences” for 10 to 15% of identical twins who share a placenta.
Before giving birth to the twins prematurely at 31 weeks on May 15, Jesy underwent the emergency procedure and spent 10 weeks in the hospital.
