Princess Kate and Jessie J were seen embracing on a red carpet after being both previously diagnosed with cancer, but a possible collaboration project is in the works.
Jessie J has revealed she will be working with Catherine, Princess of Wales, on a new project after the pair were seen bonding over their cancer experiences and grief in life.
The singer, 37, wore a black tracksuit to The Royal Variety Performance on Wednesday night and explained the baggy black hoody was a tribute to her close friend and security guard Dave Last who took his own life seven years ago. Her song I’ll Never Know Why is also about him.
Asked about meeting and hugging Princess Catherine on the red carpet, Jessie J she said: “It was lovely, honestly. I think the whole feeling for me was obviously so personal. I felt that I was Jessica. I wasn’t Jessie J.”
She continued, “I was just there to represent the people who are feeling lost, lonely, and scared, and that’s why I wore the sweatsuit to stand up for the people who are on the couch feeling afraid, alone, depressed, and it’s so beautiful what they’re doing.”
Kate and women speak out about how they are actually advocating for people who feel suicidal and alone. And I wanted to acknowledge that, mum to mum, given that breast cancer is so prevalent in the media.
I was with her at that exact moment, not that I even imagined people would notice. It was lovely to have a second to just “gave another mama a hug and see you,” in all sincere terms.
Jessie was out again 24 hours later and speaking at the ZYN Rolling Stone UK Awards, which took place at London’s Roundhouse on Thursday night. Asked if she would like to work on something with Princess Kate, Jessie nodded and then said discussions were already underway.
She added: “100 per cent. Last night, we discussed it. I believe that the most crucial thing is to keep talking about suicide and making sure that no one forgets about it.
I said, “I don’t want people to feel alone alone,” and I said it today. Is that what? They are not required to.
The previous evening the Princess of Wales had shared a touching moment with Jessie J as she and Prince William attended the Royal Variety Performance. The Price Tag singer who performed her new song, I’ll Never Know Why at the event, said she was prompted to give the royal a hug because of their shared experience of cancer.
Kate, 43, underwent six months of preventative chemotherapy last year and revealed in January that she is in remission from an undisclosed form of the disease.
Jessica Cornish, also known as Jessie, underwent a mastectomy for breast cancer in June, which led to the delay of her tour of the fall.
