Jessie J revealed to fans earlier this year that she had undergone surgery after being diagnosed with early breast cancer, but the singer has since made a heartbreaking confession about her darkest days.
Jessie J has shared an emotional update on her breast cancer journey, reflecting on the personal toll of her diagnosis and recovery following a full mastectomy in June.
The singer, 37, made the revelations during a conversation on Jamie Laing’s Great Company podcast about how much her relationship with Sky and her son Sky have changed since then.
“Yesterday I sobbed. I feel like I can’t be a mum to my son and I miss him,” she admitted. “I feel like cancer has robbed me of memories with my boy.” It comes after Jessie said that ‘life is too short’ as she revealed her new goals in life after her cancer diagnosis.
The podcast was made in two parts, one in May and the other in the following post-surgery. In the end, she made the decision to speak from a place of reflection rather than the original recording.

Due to the 4 to 5 cm lump’s size, Jessie had a mastectomy rather than radiotherapy or chemotherapy after being diagnosed early. The emotional impact of the experience was uncontrollable, though. I thought, “This is going to go left and I’m going to die,” I thought in some instances.
She recalled the moment the doctors gave the news, saying, “I just burst into tears.” I wasn’t too concerned because the doctors had already determined that it was probably just a cyst.
Despite the fear, she continued to concentrate on her music. She recalled her final pre-surgery performance at Capital’s Summertime Ball, saying, “I didn’t think I processed things properly because I was so busy with work after the diagnosis.” When I was put to sleep, I replayed that euphoria and energy.
She remained steadfast in the presence of her fans that day. “I wish everyone who has ever had a terrifying diagnosis could go through this.” The entire crowd erupted, “like a giant hug,” it said.
When Jessie saw her partner, Chanan Safir Colman, she was overcome with emotion after having surgery. She broke down in tears and said, “I was so happy to be alive.”
She later explained how her mother had been able to hold her during her recovery, saying, “Mum was massaging my boob for me because I can’t touch the scars.” I began crying as I cried “I can’t believe this has happened.” She said, “I wish it was me,” and then she started crying.
Jessie is still focused on the future, both personally and artistically, despite the fact that she is still undergoing additional surgery to address implant symmetry. On August 29th, she is scheduled to release her new single, Believe in Magic.
In a video posted to Instagram, she reflected on how the diagnosis changed her outlook. “When you go through something like cancer, people are like, ‘you’ve changed.’ But I think I always had those thoughts—cancer just makes us actually act on them.”
What are some of her post-cancer objectives? “I want to write books,” I said. Create a children’s album. Get rid of every tattoo I have. Take a trip with my family. learn how to ride a bike. She laughed, “Maybe I’ll learn a language, but I’m certain that’s not going to happen.”
“I’m interested to see if I can get some medication, cognitive therapy, or other treatment for my ADHD and OCD.”
In the end, she said, “Life is short. I want to proceed right away.
