Jeremy Clarkson is giving away 1,000 kegs of free beer after fending off ‘financial ruin’

Presenter Jeremy Clarkson will be giving away kegs of beer and cider after teasing in a video message that he’s avoided “financial ruin” at his own pub.

Jeremy, 64, opened the Farmer’s Dog in the Cotswolds in August last year. The pub’s menu includes beverages from his Hawkstone brewery, with it even described as the first “filling station” for the brand. The former Top Gear host has since spoken about the difficulty of running the business though, including having once expressed doubts over the prospect of its investors making their money back.

He teased over the possibility of “financial ruin” in a message for fans on Instagram earlier this week. Jeremy revealed in the video that he is prepared to give away Hawkstone lager and cider to other pubs if they reach out to the brand.

Sat at the bar of his pub, Jeremy said in the video uploaded to Hawkstone’s account on the platform on Tuesday: “Right, welcome to the Farmer’s Dog. It’s a pub I’ve had for about six months now and I’ve worked out it is a brilliant way of turning £100 into about £94 using nothing but customers”.

Jeremy continued: “The only thing that’s saving me from financial ruin is the fact that we serve Hawkstone lager]and] cider. Now, if you’ve got a pub and if you want to see if this strategy works for you as well, get in touch with us at]our website] and if we like the sound of your pub – if it’s the kind of place we think we wanna be in – we’ll send you a free keg. 88 pints of Hawkstone lager or cider for nothing”!

It was revealed in the caption that 1, 000 kegs will be given away for free. It read: “Calling all pubs! Click the link in our bio to apply for a keg of award-winning Hawkstone Lager or Cider on us! Jeremy knows how hard it can be to run a pub, so we want to make it easier. In support of British pubs, we’re giving away 1, 000 free kegs”. The post also encouraged fans to tag their local pub and get them to register.

The brand’s website states that trade is “tough and getting tougher”, teasing: “Things are tough out there for British pubs right now. Jeremy knows this firsthand after becoming a publican himself at The Farmer’s Dog and having to firefight on a daily basis. And we know this secondhand because we have to listen to him complaining every time something goes wrong”.

It adds: “It doesn’t matter if you’re an existing stockist or you’ve never stocked us before. All you need to do is sign up and fill out the form, choose lager or cider, and we’ll be in touch if you’re one of our lucky recipients”.
