The lavish wedding on the Venetian island of San Giovanni is being held on the heels of billionaire Jeff Bezos and his seven-year partner Lauren Sanchez, who is also a billionaire.
Amazon billionaire Jeff Bezos has made like a fresher and thrown a bizarre foam party aboard his $500million yacht as part of his reported $48 million wedding celebration. The business tycoon is set to marry his fiancée of two years Lauren Sanchez in their controversial wedding, which has already been threatened by protestors.
However, Bezos foresaw problems with his OTT wedding and hired San Giovanni as a retirement community if problems did arise. He and his bride-to-be had a party on his yacht Koru on the island of Cres in Croatia before making their way to the city of Italy.
Bezos, who is estimated to be worth $223.5 billion, made the proposal to his 55-year-old girlfriend Lauren while cruising on his superyacht. When the 61-year-old asked the question, they were docked close to the Cannes Film Festival.
The bride and groom-to-be donned hats and sunglasses for their Sunday foam party, and Lauren donned a bikini and an ombre black and red bikini. As the foam sank from a massive cannon, the couple frolicked.
A ‘Happy Birthday’ banner was seen hanging from the yacht. The Mail reports the party could have been thrown to celebrate Lauren’s 19-year-old son Evan’s birthday.
The wedding party has traveled to Venice, avoiding conflict and protesting locals who have threatened to obstruct the city’s famous canals due to the lavish affair. At tomorrow night’s 200-guest pre-wedding gala, which is scheduled to take place tomorrow evening, Greenpeace protestors and UK-based activists Everyone Hates Elon (EHE) expressed their outrage.
After residents threatened to encircle the canals with inflatable crocodiles, Bezos has already been forced to alter the couple’s plans. Locals’ threats forced Bezos to move the ceremony from the 13th-century Scuola Grande della Misericordia to the Arsenale de Venezia, where they accused him of “shutting down Venice.”
In the city of Venice in northern Italy, Arsenale is a sizable complex of former shipyards and armories gathered together. It is said to be surrounded by water, making bridge crossings from here from land impossible.
The couples’ 200 guests, including Kim Kardashian and her mother Kris Jenner, will descend on the tiny island of San Giovanni Evangelista for Thursday’s dinner. The island has a minuscule population of 11, with its only dwelling a modest five-bedroom home, which was previously the guesthouse to a convent which was part of a long-destroyed monastery complex.
As well as the threat of protestors, who are accusing Bezos of tax avoidance and environmental damage, there are also security concerns. Due to escalating tensions with Iran and Israel, as well as President Donald Trump’s recent bomb attacks and involvement in the war, surveillance is likely to be heightened.
Due to his involvement in the Middle East, Trump’s family’s presence has become a source of concern. Ivanka, the daughter of the US president, Jared Kushner, and their children have already arrived in Venice and will be staying at the St Regis, a five-star hotel close to St Mark’s Square.
Other well-known guests on the guest list list include Bill Gates, Mick Jagger, and Elton John, according to reports.
