We all know that exploring a new city can work up quite an appetite, so when we had the opportunity to try out singer and TV host Jane McDonald’s favourite pub, we didn’t need much persuading.

We spent an enjoyable afternoon exploring Wakefield, including Wakefield Bridge and Chantry Chapel, before finding The Three Houses in Sandal to quench our thirst.

We arrived at Wakefield-Kirkgate train station a short Uber ride away from the chilly interior of the cozy bar. The welcoming staff treated us to a warm welcome despite the fact that the bar was a little quiet, and we settled in quickly at a corner table next to the bar.

My dad chose a red stripe pint, while my dad chose a strawberry and lime Rekorderlig while our server promptly took our order. Then, we were given the menus, which revealed steak pie.

After confirming that it was onion-free, we both decided it would be the perfect dish for our late lunch/early dinner. Twenty minutes later, our meals arrived on large round plates, each featuring a generous portion of piping hot steak pie, a gravy boat, a metal tub of chips, a heap of peas, and several pieces of cauliflower.

According to Yorkshire Live, eating steak pie was a foodie’s dream come true and the ideal treat for a cold February day. I was drooling at the sight of the steak pie, which consists of layers of stringy, tender steak pieces submerged in a flaky yet crispy pastry top. Every bite of the pastry, steak, chips, and al dente cauliflower – all smothered in gravy – was divine, and I found myself unable to stop eating.

When has that ever been a problem? The chips were perfectly cooked and chunky. There were probably too many. Unfortunately, my plate was empty before I knew it. However, the portion size was just right, leaving me full and satisfied.

Overall, the meal was exquisite and expertly prepared. One of my favorite pies to date was probably it. I’m eager to go back and try the menu items more. For two pints and two steak pies at £38.90, it was worth every penny!

Jane McDonald made a triumphant return to Loose Women on Friday, celebrating a decade since her famous departure. The 61-year-old performer and TV host was a fan favourite on ITV’s long-running lunchtime talk show. Prior to making the decision to leave Loose Women, she was a regular panelist from 2004 to 2014.

The team was thrilled to welcome Jane back to the show to mark its 25th year on air. She frequently appeared alongside the likes of Denise Welch, Coleen Nolan, and Janet Street-Porter.
