After losing both her beloved mother and her long-term partner Eddie Rothe within three years, country singer, TV presenter, and national treasure Jane McDonald has come out the other side.

Jane McDonald says she has been “changed” by grief, after tragically losing both her mum and her partner of 15 years within three years. Loose Women star Jane’s life was turned completely upside-down after the “painful” time, forcing her to embrace a new normal for herself.

The 62-year-old has opened up about the decisions she’s had to make over recent times, including selling her £1million home, that she spent years renovating. After the death of her mum just before Christmas 2018, Jane was horrified to learn her fiancé, Eddie Rothe, was diagnosed with lung cancer.

The Searchers drummer, who was 67 years old, passed away. When Jane was only 17 years old, Eddie and Jane had a first date in the 1980s, but they parted ways in 2008. They rekindled their romance in 2008. Eddie made the proposal to Jane later that year because she was aware of her identity.

However, Jane has since changed and adjusted to her new lifestyle, which includes living with Sue Ravey, her “bezzie mate,” and making a big Christmas present for Friendsmas. The singer admitted in a new interview that living in her former home was “too painful” because there was “too much history.”

Telling the Mail, Jane revealed she bought a smaller house in the same area, plus a seaside bolt-hole, as “we all need peace in our lives”. Her living arrangement looks very different now, after Jane’s close pal Sue moved in with her after her traumatic loss.

She stated to Sue, Jane’s fellow singer and celebrity gogglebox co-star, that we will be visiting the coast in January. We continue to work together. It is very successful.

After Eddie’s death, Sue helped her through “seven skips” worth of belongings, which she helped her get to when they met when they were both in their 20s. She claimed that Sue had helped her “disappear the memories she was clinging on to, letting it all go.

She swapped out her family day for a day with her pals, despite her habit of hosting Christmas in her massive home. She continued, “Sometimes change and you have to change with it,” but none of them cooked. The cruise ship singer continued, “making new traditions and moving forward,” despite her desire to turn the clock back on her “big family Christmases.”

Jane accepts the freedom she now enjoys, believing that is how she has overcome her grief. The star claims that any hangups she once had have dissipated and that she detests the gym and “does not care” about her body image.

Following her passion for travel has a part of her freedom. Jane is forced to leave her comfort zone in Jane McDonald: From Pole to Pole, which is a new series from Channel 5, but finds the adventure and friendship inspiring.

In a touching scene, Jane once said, “We have a window, and tomorrow is never promised.” We can paddleboard while we are still fit and well, fall in, and then return. Adventure travel and new friendship are at hand.
