As she led thousands of festivalgoers in an erupting chant at Mighty Hoopla, Jade Thirlwall has made her views on Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling very clear.
Jade Thirlwall took aim at Harry Potter author JK Rowling in an explosive outburst. The former Little Mix singer who has now ventured out as a solo artist under the name JADE made her presence known as she took to the stage at Mighty Hoopla festival on Saturday.
The 32-year-old has always been a vocal supporter of the LGBTQ+ community, and she frequently uses her platform to raise funds for causes in the area. However, Jade targeted those who she believes have voiced their opposition to the community as she took to the Mighty Hoopla stage on Saturday.
Jade urged the 30, 000 crowd to join in her chant while performing her song F*** You For Now (FUFN). Jade addressed the fans by saying, “I want you to put your middle fingers in the air and I want you to yell, “F*** you,” back at me.
She then included people she claimed were homophobic, transphobic, and misogynistic. She yelled, “J. K. Rowling,” as she turned to the audience. as the fans screamed: “F*** you”. Jade’s comments on social media received mixed reviews.
One user responded, “Nah Jade, you’re not right about this.” What did J. K. Rowling do, in a second instance? Another question was posed by J. K. Rowling: “What has he done wrong with Jade? ” What “have I missed”?
However, some leapt to defend Jade, with the phrase “Jade the icon you are” in one message. We love Jade, a second Jade supporter continued: “We love Jade!! a true “North East girl”
Another person praised “She is my biggest ally” and “I love her so much.” Joanne Rowling, J. K.’s real name, has vehemently denied being transphobic.
The 59-year-old author made the first comments about trans people six years ago and has since remained firm in her opinion that they are a threat to women in same-sex spaces like bathrooms.
Earlier this month, the author posted to her 14.3 million followers on X, formerly known as Twitter, that “nobody sane believes, or has ever believed that humans can change sex, or that binary sex isn’t a material fact.” Jade’s comments come after she joined 400 UK artists and music industry workers signing an open letter pledging solidarity with the trans community.
The trans community and allies have taken to social media to protest the inclusion of trans people in single sex spaces following the UK Supreme Court’s ruling.
The Supreme Court’s decision, which is titled “Open Letter of solidarity to the trans community from the UK music industry,” highlights the impact made on the trans, non-binary, and intersex communities.
Last week, Jade performed her first solo festival slot – and headlined the Future Sounds Stage at BBC Radio 1’s Big Weekend in Liverpool’s Sefton Park.
Jade was blown away by the number of people entering the tent, according to a source at the event. After the Spice Girls and Girls Aloud, she joined the biggest female band from the UK, but she soon realized it was an “insane crowd” when she performed for her first solo show.
She did not swear, but she thanked the audience and herself. She explained to the audience that Angel of My Dreams had come after her difficulties.
