ITV Dancing on Ice star ‘devastated’ as they’re forced to miss out on skating after injury

An unexpected injury led to one Dancing On Ice star not being able to skate on the ice in this weekend’s final.
Holly Willoughby, 44, and Stephen Mulhern, 47, are back at the helm of the ITV show tonight as the latest series, which launched back in January, comes to a close. One finalist and their skating partner will be crowned the winners at the end of the live episode.
Alongside the finalists performing, it was also teased towards the start of the episode that the eliminated contestants from this year’s series would return to the ice for a group performance. It was however revealed that reality TV star Ferne McCann, 34, wouldn’t be skating with them due to an injury, though she was involved in the routine.
The former the Only Way is Essex cast member had been partnered with Brendyn Hatfield on DOI. They however became the second couple to be eliminated from the contest just two weeks after the the new series launched.
Announcing that she wouldn’t be skating in the group number, Ferne told Holly during the final that she was “devastated”. It was revealed that she had sustained an injury recently, with Ferne sharing the news whilst the host spoke to some of the former contestants ahead of the routine.
Holly said to her: “You’re actually not skating but you are performing”. Ferne, who was sporting a wrist brace on one arm, replied: “Yes. I’m involved. I’m performing. I’m devastated that I can’t skate. I fell, can you believe it, at a children’s rollerblading disco. Like, I can’t believe it. Wasn’t meant to be for me”.
During the group number, Ferne did appear but was carried over the ice by her skating partner, rather than taking to the ice herself. Other returning contestants instead skated on the ice in the performance, like Charlie Brooks, Mollie Pearce and Chris Taylor. They were joined by Chelsee Healey, Josh Jones, Steve Redgrave and Dan Edgar, who had also been voted out of DOI in previous weeks.
TOWIE cast member Dan and his skating partner Vanessa James were the most recent couple voted out of the competition prior to the final. The pair were bottom of the leaderboard in last weekend’s semi-final and then lost the skate-off.
Football pundit Anton Ferdinand, TV presenter Michaela Strachan and Coronation Street star Sam Aston had made it through to the final though. The trio returned to the ice with their respective skating partners Annette Dytrt, Mark Hanretty and Molly Lanaghan in the episode for the chance to win the long-running contest. The winners will be announced at the end of the episode.
