Italy won the Davis Cup in front of a jubilant home crowd, where Flavio Cobolli and Matteo Berrettini won the trophy for the third time in a row.

Cobolli once more excelled in a set-and-break down victory over Jaume Munar in three sets, two days after he drew an incredible 32-point tie-break to secure Italy’s place in the final.

After Berrettini defeated Pablo Carreno Busta 6-3, 6 7-6 (7-5), 7-5), the 23-year-old’s gritty 1-6, 7-6 (7-5), 7-5 victory in Bologna sealed a 2-0 victory for his country.

Italy, the first country to win three straight titles since the defending champions stopped receiving automatic automatic qualification for the final 53 years ago, are now home with a fourth overall win.

Cobolli overcame a slow start to elicit scenes of jubilation among the Italian players, staff, and supporters, who were passionately supported by the vast majority of the crowd’s sell-out 10, 000-strong crowd.

The absence of Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner prevented fans from watching the seventh meeting of the world’s dominant men’s players in 2025. Both Italy and Spain made it to the final despite missing key players.

Cobolli and Berrettini won three matches worth of singles matches this week, including Lorenzo Musetti, who is also out, to give the Italian duo their share of the spotlight.

Cobolli made the 11th game of a tense deciding set possible by maintaining his composure as he continued to serve out his comeback victory love.

Given that he had acknowledged that delivering Italy to Sunday’s showpiece on home soil had been a “dream,” that was no mean feat.

The world number 22 paid the price for a slow start by condescending a one-sided opening set in contrast to the scenes from Friday night, when Cobolli tore off his shirt in honor of “one of the best days” of his life.

However, after colliding with a break at the start of the second, Cobolli immediately launched a necessary response.

After a nine-minute stop in the game, when a spectator became ill, Cobolli’s fortunes appeared to change. The Italian floated over a fortunate net cord to put the set back on level terms when play resumed and Munar was down break point.

With a strong performance against Carreno Busta, Berrettini had already extended his winning streak in Davis Cup singles to 11 matches.

The former Wimbledon champion confidently served out the opener’s opener with his third break point for a 5-3 lead.

After forcing two break points in the opening game of the second set, Berrettini looked set to tighten his grip on the matchup after winning 11 of the final 13 points to take the first set.
