According to Israeli media reports, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu plans to declare his full occupying of the Gaza Strip.
According to i24NEWS, The Jerusalem Post, Channel 12 and Ynet, the Israeli military will expand its operations throughout the entire enclave, including those that Hamas’s prisoners are currently imprisoned, as a result of Netanyahu’s decision.
An unnamed senior official in Netanyahu’s office was quoted as saying, “The decision has been made,” according to Amit Sega, the chief political analyst with Channel 12.
“We won’t surrender, and Hamas won’t release any more hostages without full surrender.” The hostages will starve to death and Gaza will remain under Hamas’ control if we don’t act right away.
The Palestinian Ministry of Foreign Affairs criticized the plans and demanded that the international community “intervene urgently to stop them from being implemented, whether they are through pressure, trial balloons, or because they are genuinely serious.”
Netanyahu’s office did not respond to Al Jazeera’s request for comment right away.
As Israel’s military is preparing to start its two-year-old occupation of Gaza, Netanyahu is scheduled to convene his war cabinet on Tuesday to discuss the next steps.
In light of the rising number of Palestinian deaths as a result of malnutrition and Israeli attacks, Netanyahu is under increasing international pressure to provide more humanitarian aid to Gaza and to end the conflict.
According to medical sources in Gaza, at least 74 Palestinians have been killed in the Israeli attacks on Monday, including 36 aid workers.
Following the release of footage showing Rom Braslavski and Evyatar David appearing emaciated, the Israeli leader is also facing growing domestic pressure to get the remaining prisoners from Hamas’ hands in Gaza.
Netanyahu made a double standard for his war objectives on Monday, including bringing down Hamas and obtaining the release of the remaining prisoners.
At the start of a regular cabinet meeting on Monday, Netanyahu said, “We must continue to stand together and fight together to accomplish all of our war goals: the release of our hostages, the victory of the enemy, and the assurance that Gaza will no longer pose a threat to Israel.”
Osama Hamdan, a senior Hamas official, claimed on Monday that the United States and other Western nations were “turning the blind eye” to the atrocities committed by Israel and that Netanyahu’s government had “full responsibility” for the lives of the captives because of its “resistance, arrogance, and evasion” of reaching a ceasefire agreement and the escalation of the hunger and extermination war against our people.
Since October 2023, more than 60 Palestinians have died in Gaza, including at least 18 430 children, according to Gaza health officials.
