Israeli forces kill more than 80 people across Gaza as starvation worsens

According to medical sources, at least 83 Palestinians have died as a result of Israeli-caused hunger in the Gaza Strip, and eight more have died as a result of starvation and malnutrition.

58 aid seekers were shot by Israeli forces as they approached aid distribution centers run by US- and Israeli-backed GHF, making up the total number killed on Tuesday.

Since GHF distribution sites started operating in May, Al Jazeera’s Hind Khoudary, a reporter from Deir el-Balah in central Gaza, reported from the same location every day.

The Israeli forces are opening fire, according to Khoudary, who said that Palestinians are waiting for food at these distribution centers.

According to sources at al-Shifa Hospital, the number of injured people who have been transported from the distribution center close to the Zikim crossing in northern Gaza is “very large.”

According to Khoudary, “injuries are coming with bullets in parts of their bodies, including their heads, necks, and also their chests,” bullets are lodged in areas of their bodies that are difficult to treat. “The distribution locations of violence are the same.”

The UN and other humanitarian organizations have harshly criticized the GHF for not providing enough aid and for the dire security conditions at and around its aid distribution sites.

In response to the Israeli-induced starvation crisis, more than 1, 560 Palestinians who were attempting to receive food have been killed so far by Israeli forces.

Aid organizations and health officials are putting forth new threats of starvation, particularly among children and the elderly, as a result of the attacks.

Salim Asfour, 75, claimed to have been surviving solely on bread and water for months and had dropped from 80 kg to 40 kg (88 lbs) since the start of the war.

He said, “My son needs to assist me in going to the bathroom.” How do I get Rafah’s food aid? How will I walk 20 km (12 miles)”?

In the most recent 24-hour reporting period, a child was among the eight people who died of starvation or malnutrition, according to Gaza’s Ministry of Health. Since Israel’s war started, there have been 188 Palestinian deaths from hunger or malnutrition, including 94 children.

According to the UN agency for Palestinian refugees (UNRWA), Israel allowed 95 aid trucks into the Strip on Monday, which is far below the daily production requirement of 600 trucks to meet the minimum survival requirements. 85 trucks are currently on average each day.

The government media office in Gaza once more issued a warning about an intensifying humanitarian catastrophe and stated that the majority of the limited aid had been sowed as a result of “the Israeli occupation’s systematic policy of engineering chaos and starvation.”

full resumption by Israel

Despite widespread international pressure to end the besieged Palestinian enclave and to stop hunger, efforts to broker a truce between Israel and Hamas have failed.

Netanyahu, the prime minister of Israel, appears to be ready to declare his intention to occupy the Gaza Strip completely, according to Israeli media reports.

Netanyahu’s office announced on Tuesday that he had a “limited security discussion” with military chief of staff Eyal Zamir that included “the options for continuing the campaign in Gaza.”

Israel Katz and Ron Dermer, an aide to Netanyahu, will meet later this week to discuss a strategy to be presented to the cabinet, according to an Israeli official. The cabinet meeting is scheduled for Thursday, according to Israeli media.

According to an official from Netanyahu’s office, Israel’s Channel 12 reported that the prime minister was aiming to retake control of the entire region, which the Israeli army has largely destroyed.

According to reports from the UN on Tuesday about a potential decision to expand Israel’s military presence in the Gaza Strip, they are “deeply alarming.”

At a UN Security Council meeting, UN Assistant Secretary-General Miroslav Jenca stated that “international law is clear in this regard, and Gaza must remain a fundamental component of the upcoming Palestinian state.”

Israeli tanks entered central Gaza on Tuesday, but it was not immediately clear if it was part of a larger ground offensive.

Any new push would be disastrous, according to Palestinians who live in the last quarter of the country where Israel has not yet taken military control through ground incursions or forced evacuations.

Where would we go if the tanks were pushed through? into the ocean? According to Abu Jehad, a wood merchant in Gaza, “this will be like a death sentence for the entire population.”

Since the start of the war in Gaza in October 2023, more than 61 Palestinians have died, including at least 18 430 children, according to Gaza health officials.

According to Israeli authorities, Hamas is still holding captives of 49 people, including 27 who are reportedly dead.
