Israel strikes Gaza, breaking ceasefire: Live tracker

At least 404 people, many of whom were children, were killed and a large number of others were injured when Israeli warplanes launched a massive assault across the Gaza Strip early on Tuesday morning.

As more people continue to reside beneath the rubble of bombed buildings, the death toll is likely to rise.

The fragile two-month-old ceasefire with Hamas, which started on January 19, has been broken by Israel’s attacks.

Israeli attacks targeted Jabalia, Beit Hanoon, Gaza City, Nuseirat, Deir el-Balah, Khan Younis, and Rafah in various locations throughout the Gaza Strip, from north to south. The al-Mawasi zones, among others, were attacked as well as other areas that had been designated as safe humanitarian zones.

Israeli forces issue a forced displacement order

Residents of the following areas were told to “evacuate immediately,” according to the Israeli military’s Arabic-language spokesman Avichay Adraee in a statement on X: “Your neighbourhoods will become dangerous combat zones.

  • Beit Hanoon
  • Khirbet Khuza’a
  • Abasan al-Kabira
  • Abbassan al-Jadida

Adraee advised people in these areas to seek shelter in Khan Younis or western Gaza City.

During the “peacefire,” Israel killed more than 170 people.

A three-phase ceasefire agreement reached between Israel and Hamas on January 15 put an end to the Gaza-ravaged country’s more than 460 days of fighting.

A ceasefire was included in the deal, which became effective on January 19 and gave Palestinians the option to flee their homes in exchange for the release of thousands of Palestinian prisoners held by Israel.

However, Israel repeatedly violated the ceasefire in Gaza between January 19 and March 17, causing almost three deaths per day.

More than 350 violations by Israel have been documented by Gaza authorities, including military incursions, gunfire, air raids, increased surveillance, and aid obstructing.

Stopping humanitarian assistance

The attacks added to Gaza’s growing humanitarian crisis.

After the first phase of the ceasefire expired, Israel halted all humanitarian aid entering Gaza on March 2. This resulted in food, medicine, and fuel being cut off.

The blockade caused apprehensions across the globe, with European nations warning that it might violate international humanitarian law. Aid trucks were stranded outside of Gaza, increasing the risk of hunger and malnutrition, which worsened humanitarian conditions.

The most recent attacks occur during Ramadan, a Muslim holy month.

More than 60, 000 killed, 112, 000 wounded

According to the Gaza-based Ministry of Health, there are at least 48, 577 Palestinians confirmed dead and 112 wounded in Israel’s ongoing conflict there. In Gaza, one in every 50 people have been killed and one in every 20 have been hurt, according to this figure.

More than 61,700 people died as a result of the government media office’s update on February 3, noting that thousands of Palestinians who had vanished under the rubble were now believed to be dead.

On October 7, 2023, a Hamas-led attack on southern Israel left 139 people dead and more than 200 were taken prisoner.
