The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) provided the body of 45 Palestinians to Gaza’s Health Ministry earlier on Monday, bringing the total number of bodies given under the ceasefire agreement to 270.
According to a statement from the ministry on Monday, forensic teams have identified 78 bodies so far and will continue conducting their examinations “in accordance with approved medical procedures and protocols” before giving the bodies back to their families.
According to previous reports, many of the returned bodies, which included bound hands, blindfolds, and facial disfigurements, were handed back without identification tags and had been detained by authorities.
The first phase of the ceasefire agreement, which included prisoner and body exchanges mediated by Turkiye, Egypt, and Qatar with American involvement, culminated with the handover on October 10.
Khoudary, a reporter from Deir el-Balah in central Gaza, stated that “many of the bodies returned show signs of torture.” She added that Palestinians who have vanished from the country are still looking for relatives there.
She said that if these bodies aren’t identified, they will be interred in a mass grave in Deir el-Balah along with other Palestinians.
Israeli ceasefire violations
Israel continues to launch deadly attacks despite a ceasefire. Three Palestinians were killed on Monday by Israeli fire north of Rafah in southern Gaza, according to a source at the Nasser Medical Complex.
The Israeli army claimed that in a violation of the ceasefire, people had crossed the “yellow line,” an Israeli-controlled area.
It was impossible to independently verify the events in Israel. Additionally, it’s unclear whether the Israeli military referenced the same attack that claimed the lives of the three Palestinians.
A source at al-Ahli Arab Hospital reported to Al Jazeera that a child was one of three people who were seriously injured by Israeli fire in Gaza City.
According to Tareq Abu Azzoum, a journalist from Gaza City, Israel continues to drop grenades on partially standing buildings using quadcopter drones. He claimed that “authorities here regard these acts as violations of the ceasefire.”
