For Nottingham Forest, things had to change.

One game away from the May Champions League. They now have a third manager in six weeks and are currently in the Premier League relegation zone in October.

Ange Postecoglou’s dismissal just 17 minutes after Chelsea’s 3-0 defeat on Saturday put an end to his 39-day reign, which Sean Dyche has signed until the summer of 2027.

Postecoglou was eloquent, calling the Europa League winning team a target, but he left as Forest’s and Premier League’s shortest-serving permanent manager.

Owner Evangelos Marinakis made an early-week SOS call to Dyche as he considered his options over the weekend.

The club is attempting to regain its identity and confidence after a season that has already been ruined by self-inflicted wounds. The former Everton and Burnley manager, a Nottingham resident and former Forest academy player, has responded.

“A man’s leader,” according to Dyche.

After the Postecoglou experiment failed, Forest turned around and backed themselves.

Before Thursday’s Europa League match against Porto, they requested the new man, and Dyche must restore the organization and solidity that were so evident under Nuno Espirito Santo, who put them seventh in the Premier League last year.

Murillo and Nikola Milenkovic were both concerned about Postecoglou’s more direct play, while Matz Sels, who won the Golden Glove with David Raya at Arsenal last year, has struggled to keep a clean sheet this term and has been held accountable for at least one goal against Chelsea.

Elliot Anderson has maintained his form and received the most touches this season in the Premier League, 807, but the midfielder is a different story.

After Forest spent £180 million on 13 new players during the summer transfer window, Dyche will need to understand the squad’s psychology and make-up right away.

James McAtee, Dilane Bakwa, Arnaud Kalimuendo, and record signing Omari Hutchinson started with just two summer signings, Douglas Luiz and Oleksandr Zinchenko, who had already signed for the squad on Saturday.

The squad has too many players and too many players of the same type, according to sources close to the squad.

Due to Nuno’s departure, Dyche must restore that unity, which had been so crucial.

Former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson, who spent 18 months under Dyche at Burnley, called him one of the most charismatic men, who enters a room and demands the room’s attention.

One of Sean’s great traits is that “man managers, people whose door was always open and told you the truth whether you liked it or not, always treated me really well.”

He commands the respect of the dressing room immediately because he is a leader of men. He has occasionally received criticism for his play, but he still gets results and, as I have said and responded, he can get the most out of players who may not be at the highest level.

Forest had European ambitions once more, and Postecoglou was hired to win trophies, but they now have to refocus and move forward.

In 2017-18, Dyche placed Burnley seventh, making it the Clarets’ first European qualifying place in more than 50 years.

Will Everton, 54, be able to win the Europa League despite finishing 17th and 15th under him?

The squad of players is still present, Robinson said, “I believe they can still do it.” It is altering the mindset. It’s difficult to escape a losing run, but if anyone could, he’d be the kind of man to do it.

He doesn’t want to be labeled as the trouble-shooter to keep Premier League teams in the same league as Sam Allardyce, like a firefighter entering. He now has a career opportunity to work as a builder.

“He has a fantastic squad of players,” he said. Yes, they face financial difficulties, but looking at the squad, it shouldn’t take that much work this year.

Per defensive action, passes are permitted under PPDA. It gauges how frequently teams wait until the opposition starts to take advantage of their possession, whether that means winning the ball back or allowing a throw-in or corner. Teams that are aggressively attempting to win the ball back will have lower figures, while teams that are prepared to withstand greater pressure will have higher figures.

Forest enthusiasts are afraid of going back to the wild.

The City Ground’s muddled thinking is highlighted by traveling from Nuno to Dyche via Postecoglou in less than six weeks.

Despite having the best intentions, wanting to advance is one thing, but doing so is completely different.

After 23 years, Steve Cooper and Forest are now back in the Premier League for the fourth time, with Marinakis joining Postecoglou as their post-title challengers.

Instead, they are in a relegation fight, and fans should be realistic about this following Dyche’s appointment, according to Matt Davies, the host of the well-known Forest Focus podcast.

He said, “It’s probably a dose of reality.” We had a fantastic start to the season, coming off of our best season, and making a significant investment in the squad.

“But you have to examine the circumstance, which places us in the relegation zone. Even though it’s only eight games, the promoted teams are still doing well.

So at least one established Premier League club will disappear if we are selected. You would have to go straight backward, and if not, we could take a number of steps back.

Fans of the forest express a great deal of fear that we spent 23 years in the wilderness. We absolutely don’t want to go back there, and we don’t want to do it in the most self-inflicted way you can think of.

You must get this right, and Sean Dyche deserves a dose of reality.

Davies is cautious to point the finger, but the blame game has already started for how Forest came to be here.

He said, “It’s too simple just to throw one name in there and say, “Oh, it’s all the owner, it’s all Ange.”

The club has had four names on it since the end of last season: Nuno, Marinakis, Postecoglou, and Edu.
