Is Calvert-Lewin an essential pick? The FPL talking point

Is Calvert-Lewin’s form becoming a crucial part of the Fantasy Premier League, as England manager Thomas Tuchel will undoubtedly notice?

Since returning to his starting role in the 3-2 defeat by Manchester City in Gameweek 13, Calvert-Lewin has seven goals in six appearances.

His cost has increased from £5.5 million to £5.8 million this year, and despite having one million new owners in just three gameweeks, he still accounts for a differential of just 8.8% of teams.

FPL managers are unsure of when this run will stop because he consistently scores (he’s on a six-game scoring streak). rather than “should I be purchasing him for my team”?

We are aware of Calvert-Lewin’s pedigree when necessary. He added 16 goals and six assists to his Everton career in 2019/20 and in 2020/21. If he stays in shape, his current underlying statistics suggest that this recent trend of form might be long-term.

With 15 or more games missing in three of his previous four seasons, Calvert-Lewin’s biggest asset as an FPL player has been fitness. With his move to Leeds United giving him the chance to resurrect his career, he had only scored 12 goals in his previous three seasons at Everton.

With games against Liverpool, Manchester United, and Newcastle United scheduled for the following three gameweeks, the entry point for purchasing the Leeds United striker is uncertain. Despite the perceived difficulty of the fixture, his recent goal against Liverpool in the reverse fixture demonstrates his ability to deliver.

Given that he is currently the fifth-highest scoring forward in the game and an excellent budget choice to enter in the front three alongside the current template picks, Hugo Ekitike and Erling Haaland, I’m sorely tempted to buy him before Gameweek 19.
