Ireland made it through a difficult start to defeat Scotland and kick off their impressive Women’s Rugby World Cup preparations.
Through Lisa Thomson and Lucia Scott tries, Scotland jumped out to an early 14-0 lead in Cork after losing to Italy last week.
However, after Scotland’s hooker Lana Skeldon was injured on the half-hour mark, Sabdbh McGrath and Meabh Deely scored to leave Ireland with just two points at half-time.
Ireland’s second half dominance was sustained for extended periods of time, with debutant Nancy Gillivray setting up Ireland’s third goal.
Ireland rallied in the closing stages through Deirbhile Nic a Bhaird and Niamh O’Dowd, but Scotland responded with a strong solo effort from Emma Orr.
