As a result of diplomatic efforts, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has stated to the UN General Assembly that Tehran will “never attempt to build a nuclear bomb.”
The United Kingdom, France, and Germany’s 30-day effort to rescind UN sanctions against Iran is approaching its September 27 deadline.

Tehran is accused of breaking a 2015 agreement with world powers that aimed to stop it from developing nuclear weapons by the three European countries known as the E3.
If Iran resumes access to UN nuclear inspectors, raises concerns about its stockpile of enriched uranium, and engages in discussions with the US, the E3 have stated that they will delay lifting sanctions for up to six months.
Iran has previously cited the US president’s decision to withdraw from the nuclear deal and the June airstrikes against Iran as justifications for reversing its previous commitments.
Pezeshkian continued to accuse the E3 of acting “at the behest of the United States of America” in his UN speech.
They “set aside good faith,” he told the assembly. They “failed to fulfill their legal obligations.” They aimed to portray Iran’s “gross violation” as the legal steps taken in response to the US’s withdrawal from the JCPOA [the Iran nuclear deal] and to Europe’s violation and other incapacity.
Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, Iran’s supreme leader, reiterated in a recorded speech on Tuesday that Tehran does not intend to develop nuclear weapons but that talks with the US are not possible. Khamenei added, “This is not a negotiation. It is a diktat, or imposition.
12-day war
In his address, Pezeshkian went on to condemn the Israeli and the US surprise attacks that sparked the 12-day war.
The war also reduced the country’s defenses, resulting in the deaths of several senior Iranian military figures.
Israel’s airstrikes, which it claimed were a preemptive act of “self-defence” against Iran’s nuclear program, killed more than 1, 000 Iranians.
Israel has attacked several nations, including Qatar, Syria, Lebanon, and Yemen, and has been accused of disobeying the sovereignty of its neighboring Arab neighbors. Tehran retaliated against Israel’s military strikes against Iran, which was its biggest military offensive in recent years.
According to Pezeshkian, “the Iranian nation has consistently demonstrated that it shall never bow before aggressors.”
He continued, “The patriotic and valiant people of Iran exposed the self-deception and self-delusion of their arrogant calculations” during the war.
Ambitions toward “Greater Israel”
Speakers from the UN General Assembly’s annual debate on the second day included those from Syria’s interim leader Ahmed al-Sharaa, as well as from Ukraine’s president Volodymyr Zelenskyy, and from Argentina’s Javier Milei.
Both days have been dominated by Israel’s conflict in Gaza, with Pezeshkian using his speech to denounce Israeli claims to have “greater Israel” and that his claims include creating “buffer” zones in neighboring nations.
The ludicrous and delusional plan of a “great Israel” is being proclaimed with brazenness by the highest echelons of that regime, he said, “after nearly two years of genocide, mass starvation, the perpetuation of apartheid within the occupied territories, and aggression against its neighbors.”
He added that Israel’s recent hostilities of its neighbors demonstrated that it no longer seeks security through normalization.
“Israel and its supporters are no longer even content with political normalization.” Instead, they use brute force to impose their will, and have created a peaceful atmosphere, according to the Iranian president.
He said in his closing remarks that Iran is ready to cooperate with international partners and break away from isolation.
For all peace-seeking nations, Iran is a steadfast partner and trustworthy companion, he said, “based not on fleeting expediency but on dignity, trust, and a shared future.”
Turn threads into opportunities, asks the statement.
