Inside Zoe Ball and Fatboy Slim’s enduring friendship from wild partying to puzzle nights

Although their relationship ended nearly ten years ago, Zoe Ball and DJ Norman Cook, aka Fatboy Slim, have maintained their friendship.

The pair, who first met while traveling to Ibiza in the summer of 1997, tied the knot in a romantic ceremony at Somerset’s Babington House in 1999. Norman, 61, praised Zoe for keeping him on top while navigating the height of his fame during their time together, even though the pair went through a few ups and downs, including a brief breakup in 2003.

After three months apart, they reconciled their relationship and welcomed their son, Woody, into the world in 2000. Ten years later they became parents to their daughter, Nelly.

Sadly Zoe, 54, and Norman called time on their relationship in 2016 and announced that they’d “come to the end of our rainbow”. Although the couple co-parenting their children, the couple remained significant in one another’s lives after their divorce was finalized in 2020.

Zoe stepped down from her BBC Radio 2 breakfast show in December 2024, marking the conclusion of yet another significant chapter in her life. The TV personality has been spending time with her ex-boyfriend Woody, watching their party days turn into days of gardening and puzzle-solving, and hanging up her mic ever since.

“In the last five years, it’s been funny watching my parents take up gardening both of them”, he said in a recent interview. The 24-year-old added that his parents are currently employed by their neighborhood cafe. Big Beach Cafe in Hove is where Fatboy Slim frequently appears while wearing a name badge with the words “Norman.”

“These crazy party people who were my whole family now work in the neighborhood cafe, garden, and make puzzles. He told MailOnline, “It’s very funny to watch that transitional period, just as I’m sort of leaving the nest and starting something significant for me in music.”

A source who informed Woody about Zoe and Norman’s reignited friendship last year claimed that the Praise You DJ had been “very much there for” the radio DJ during a difficult time. The devoted presenter announced to her fans on Radio 2 that she would be stepping away from the microphone temporarily in order to visit her mother Julia, who had just been given a pancreatic cancer diagnosis.

Sadly Julia passed away in May – 12 weeks after her diagnosis. Zoe thanked her for showing her unwavering love in a sweet Instagram post while paying tribute to her devoted mother. “Sleep tight, dear Mama. Thank you for teaching us to love without conditions and exhibit courage and compassion. And how, even in the darkest of days, laughter is the greatest of gifts”, she wrote.

Speaking to OK! During this time in her life, a source claimed in September that Zoe had found solace in her ex-husband. They claimed Zoe has been dealing with “a lot of changes in her life” and the loss of her mother in the past few months.

“And despite their breakup, Norman remains the one person she can count on, and he has always been her rock.” Meanwhile, in July 2024 both Zoe and Norman looked ever the proud parents as they supported Woody’s DJ set while at The i360 Brighton Seafront.

In the video, Norman danced along and punched the air while Zoe was captured on camera grinning from ear to ear. There were “rumors of a new closeness” between the former couple, according to MailOnline, though their mutual friends were likely to have had a lot of wishful thinking.

The pair were joking on Radio 2 a year before 2024 when Zoe and the DJ discussed his preparations for Glastonbury. When asked by Zoe whether he remembered his first time playing the festival, he joked: “No, we]The Housemartins] played the Pyramid Stage in 1986. Do you not know this? You are completely ignorant of me”! In response, Zoe laughed: “I know nothing about you”, adding that, “I’ve tried to block it from my memory – no, only kidding”.
