Marten Glotzbach, a former coach and professor of economics, and Sarina Wiegman, a wife of the couple, co-parent to their two daughters. They have a private, understated family life.
Head coach of the England women’s national football team Sarina Wiegman is widely recognised for her success on the field, but her private life remains notably low-key, especially when it comes to her husband and her family life.
The celebrated Dutch football coach, 55, who is celebrating a third European Championships win and a second with England, has transformed England’s fortunes since taking over four years ago.
The Lionesses won the Euros in 2022 under the guidance of Sarina, and then advanced to the World Cup final, where they were sadly defeated by Spain in the final in 2023.
Marten Glotzbach, who has supported Sarina throughout her incredible football career, gave her a cheer in Sunday’s Switzerland showdown.
Former football coach Marten, 55, is currently employed as an economics professor in the Netherlands. The couple, who met in 1994, have two daughters who both enjoy football and football.
Marten began his career in sports broadcasting as a youth trainer and coordinator before becoming a professional football coach. During her coaching stints with the Dutch and English women’s teams, he and Sarina have shared a common goal.
Sarina and Marten rarely share any information about their home life on social media despite playing public positions.
They prefer to prevent their daughters’ privacy and restrict public appearances by preventing family life from being in the media spotlight. Sarina has emphasized the importance of maintaining a private family life, and she credits Marten with helping her manage her busy professional life while maintaining a steady hand at home.
After realizing she would need to relocate for her position as Lionesses coach, Sarina reportedly made the decision to relocate to the UK with her husband and her children.
Following on from England’s Euro success in 2022, Sarina took her husband on a trip to the beach, where they rarely get to see her husband or personal life.
It’s “family time!” Different in mode than two weeks ago, but still enthralled by the incredible footage that is streaming right now.
Sacha and Lauren, the two daughters that Sarina and Marten have together, are devoted parents. Lauren, the 21-year-old daughter, briefly followed her parents’ footsteps and pursued a football career.
Before her contract with Dutch football team ADO Den Haag, which she played for two years, expired in May 2025.
Not much else is known about Sarina’s daughters as she tries to keep her family life out of the public eye as much as possible, and both Sacha and Lauren have set their Instagram accounts to private.
It comes after Sarina broke down in tears following England’s win at Euros. The legendary football manager has suffered some heartbreaking setbacks in her personal life, whilst going from strength to strength professionally.
Only a few years after Sarina’s time in Britain, a personal tragedy struck. Her sister, Diana, was diagnosed with cancer in 2021, and over the course of the following year, she became increasingly ill. She was heartbreakingly unable to travel to England to see Sarina in action.
In May 2022, the family was given the tragic news that Diana did not have much time left, and Sarina told the Guardian that despite the heartbreaking update, “We made that such a valuable month.”
Sarina revealed that she had support from throughout the Football Association to help her through such a difficult time after her death, explaining that she felt incredibly close to her late sister, who she knew would have wanted to give the Women’s Euros everything she could.
However, Sarina was suddenly devastated and broke down the night before the final match against Germany due to her severe loss.
When it suddenly dawned on me, “OK, this is not what I want,” we were preparing. Sarina said that’s completely normal because it has had such an emotional impact.
However, she relied on the support system to guide her through the harrowing experience.
“I was aware of my ability to communicate with anyone during that time, especially Kate Hays, our sports psychologist.” When you talk about it, it’s kind of a relief when you sit down with her and talk about it. So we did that the day before the final, and when we actually played the final, I was so relieved that it was over.
Sarina was photographed kissing the bracelet she wore after the Lionesses won the game and entering the field to celebrate with her teammates. The manager wore the bracelet in honor of Diana, keeping her close throughout.
