Indian Premier League 2025: Axar Patel named Delhi Capitals captain

Axar Patel, India’s spin-bowling all-star, has been appointed as the team’s captain in the upcoming Indian Premier League season, according to the press release.

The 31-year-old joined the team in 2019 and is the team’s longest-serving member. In his 82 games with the Capitals, he has scored 967 runs and taken 62 wickets for an economy rate of 7.09.

Axar, who recently joined the Lucknow Super Giants and was appointed India’s Twenty20 International vice-captain in January, succeeds Rishabh Pant as Delhi captain.

Axar said in a statement on Friday that it is “my absolute honor to lead the Delhi Capitals, and I’m deeply appreciative of the support staff and our owners for believing in me”.

“During my time at the Capitals, I’ve developed both as a cricketer and as a person, and I feel prepared and confident to lead this team.”

On March 24th, the Capitals travel to Lucknow to begin their IPL campaign in Visakhapatnam.
