After the wicketkeeper injured his foot on the opening day of the fourth Test against England, India are awaiting the results of a scan of Rishabh Pant.

When Pant was trying to beat England’s pace bowler Chris Woakes, he was struck on the right foot and taken off the field using a cart.

A lump on the side of the foot that could not be identified was clearly causing the 27-year-old discomfort.

Sai Sudharsan, who was batting with Pant at the time, said, “He was in a lot of pain, undoubtedly.”

He has left for scans, he said. We’ll learn more quickly and likely have the information tomorrow.

Losing Pant would be a huge blow for the tourists, who must win the series if they are to stay in Old Trafford.

He has excelled in this series, appearing in flamboyant and unpredictable form at number five. In the first Test, he scored two centuries before scoring 50 in the second and third.

On Wednesday in Manchester, Pant and Sudharsan shared a crucial position. Sudharsan was out for 61 after Pant’s injury, leaving India with a score of 264-4 at the break.

It would obviously be a very big loss, Sudharsan said, “because he was batting really well today.”

It will undoubtedly have consequences because we will miss a batter if he doesn’t return. We will try to bat long enough to withstand that loss because we also have a few more all-rounders in the side.

Liam Dawson, the England spinner, stated that he doesn’t anticipate Pant returning for this game.

Dawson, who took a wicket on his first day of Test cricket for eight years, said, “Thoughts are with him, that didn’t look a great injury.”

Pant injured his finger in Lord’s third Test. Dhruv Jurel had to stand behind the stumps because he could still bat but couldn’t keep wicket.

Although the laws of the game restrict Jurel’s involvement in wicketkeeping, India could make a similar move in this regard. Pant would not be able to replace him as a batter.

Former England captain Michael Vaughan thinks a serious injury to Pant would be a “huge play” in the series given the tightness of the first three Tests.

Vaughan described the Rishabh Pant injury as “such a game play.” “For India to lose a player who occasionally played with such control, clarity, and flamboyance.

“It was ridiculous really to try to reverse-sweep a bowler who was bowling at 80 mph,” he said.
