A cast member from I’m A Celebrity, who previously worked as the receptionist for Celebs Go Dating, has now landed a job as an Agony Uncle with This Morning
A star from this year’s cast of I’m A Celebrity has already secured a major TV gig – and it’s not this year’s King of the Jungle Angry Ginge. Tom Read Wilson, who was previously best known as the charming receptionist on Celebs Go Dating, made his debut on This Morning today as the show’s official Agony Uncle.
Producers reportedly moved quickly to snap him up just days after he finished second in the ITV reality series. Every year, This Morning is known to offer a career-launching opportunity to a popular jungle star. Former I’m A Celeb champion Sam Thompson and past campmates Ferne McCann and Vicky Pattison even went on to become regulars on the daytime programme.
But this time, it was Tom who impressed the hosting team, despite AngryGinge’s win on Sunday night making him one of the most in-demand new personalities on TV.
Tom kicked off his new role by chatting with Cat Deeley and Ben Shephard about his memories of jungle life. Ben told him: “One of the things I’ve loved as well Tom, is in the camp, you certainly became a sort of a go-to Agony Uncle for quite a lot of your campmates.”
Tom admitted life in the jungle pushed him to open up, replying: “Well, I think Shona taught me hugely…be vulnerable, because we all are so vulnerable anyway here. And particularly where Shona was concerned, I think we sort of followed one another’s spiky graph.”
He admitted to having a similarly approachable personality on Celebs Go Dating, sharing: “It is I suppose, sort of my role too. I try to be a shoulder and a bosom if I can. And so it was nice to occupy that space in the jungle.”
Producers put his skills to the test immediately, bringing him back later in the show to give live advice to viewers. One caller, Dario, asked whether he should confess his crush to a work colleague at the office Christmas party.
Tom urged him not to wait until the drinks were flowing to start hinting at his feelings, adding: “Imagine what a delicious evening it could be. If you sow the seeds before, then it can be the most sumptuous evening. You don’t want it to be an in vino veritas affair.”
Cat and Ben were delighted with the segment, and Cat was quick to ask him: “Would you come back and do this again?” Tom didn’t hesitate to respond: “I would absolutely love to.”
Tom’s growing popularity is a far cry from the early days of his time in the jungle, where many viewers admitted they didn’t know who he was.
His eloquent way of speaking was also dubbed “posh” by fans, but he eventually won the audience over with his warmth and sense of humour.
During one of the show’s final episodes, he broke down in tears after admitting he was struggling with missing home. “I’m a wreck, sorry,” he told his co-stars, before explaining, “I think I’ve opened the floodgates a bit.” Kelly Brook comforted him, reassuring him it could be “a healing time”.
Despite entering the show as a late arrival, Tom finished as runner-up behind YouTuber AngryGinge, with EastEnders actress Shona McGarty placing third.
