Ikeja Electric Headquarters Unsealed After ‘Undertaking’ — FCCPC

After the company made a legally binding commitment to follow the legal process for consumer rights violations, the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) announced that it had unsealed Ikeja Electric Plc’s headquarters.

The DisCo’s headquarters was previously sealed on December 11, 2025, according to a statement from the Commission’s Director of Corporate Affairs, Ondaje Ijagwu, because it disobeyed a NERC directive to divide a Maximum Demand account into 20 individual accounts for a customer who had been without power for more than two and a half years.

“Ikeja Electric committed to responding to all consumer complaints the FCCPC referred to it within agreed time frames.

Any violation of the agreement would result in renewed and more severe enforcement actions under the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Act, according to the statement.

Tunji Bello, the FCCPC’s Executive Vice Chairman and CEO, said Reacting that the Commission’s intervention was necessary to enforce the FCCPA’s (2018) provisions.

Our job is to make sure that service providers adhere to legal decisions and rules and that consumers are treated fairly. The goal of enforcement is not an end in itself. The Commission will respond appropriately where compliance is achieved and credible commitments are made, he said.

Bello added more detail, adding that the outcome reflected the Commission’s balanced approach to regulation.
