Before Saturday’s British, European, and Commonwealth super-middleweight showdown in Leeds, Callum Simpson said Troy Williamson “will have a war if he wants it.”
Simpson, 29, tipped the scales at 11st 13lb 11oz (75.9kg) while Williamson came in slightly lighter at 11st 13lb 6oz (75.8kg).
Simpson, who has won 21 fights, four losses, and one draw on his record, is putting his super-middleweight titles against Williamson at the First Direct Arena, which he has won with 18 fights.
Williams, who became a professional in 2019, said that “Williamson] can have it any way he wants.”
He has been wearing a hat with the word “war” on it all week. We will have a war if he wants one. He has the right to receive whatever he wants.
However, I’m going to win no matter what. I’m not coming just to dominate, but to defend. I want to demonstrate that I have advanced beyond this level.
In his hometown of Barnsley in June, Simpson climbed off the canvas twice to claim a stunning stoppage victory over Ivan Zucco.
When Simpson and Williamson faced off, Darlington fighter Williamson responded, “Just a guy that’s in my way that I need to take care of.”
Simpson is anticipated to win a sizable following in Yorkshire from Barnsley, but Williamson said he is unfazed by the support for his rival.
The 34-year-old continued, “The fans can’t win the fight.”
They can “make any amount of noise,” they claim. However, the referee, him, and I are all in the ring. All that matters is that.
