Idris Elba, a lithography legend, has opened up to the Mirror about what the future holds for him and his family, and made it clear that he is considering a potential James Bond role.
Idris Elba is the one name that keeps coming up in conversation when everyone is hoping to become James Bond. Fans of the franchise may be looking forward to the long-awaited call to name a replacement British Secret Service agent as Daniel Craig’s replacement is about to pass.
Since Craig’s departure in 2021, which he had previously performed in No Time To Die, has been in the air. And despite the fact that Bond 26 is scheduled to begin in 2027 and have a 2028 release in 2028, Elba has, regrettably, refrained from making any claims that he will be hired and fired for the role.
Speaking exclusively to the Mirror, the 53-year-old star shot down any hopes of him ever doing Bond, claiming age is against him. “I can’t believe I am still being asked this at 53!” he said.
“You commit to a decade of making movies, sometimes a little longer,” says Bond. Nobody wants to see Bond “circling” in his mid-thirties.
Elba’s decades-long, highly impressive career led to the establishment of the links. Perhaps his portrayal of Luther the brilliant-yet-troubled homicide detective was most notable.
While the series hit its heights on BBC at the start of its nine-year initial stint in 2010, it later moved over to streaming giants Netflix, where its popularity continued to surge.
Elba co-starred in Luther: The Fallen Sun, a sequel film from 2023, in addition to five gripping series. And while he avoided Bond, he has now made fun of the possibility that he might decide to purchase his long, elegant trench coat in the future.
He acknowledged that “Luther is the character I have played the longest.” He remarked, “I probably get the most out of each character.” “It takes such concentration to play Luther; he is so complex, and I enjoy playing him because he transports me to places I’ve never been before.”
“I don’t think I’m ready to say I have hung up his coat right now, but there is nothing to report.”
His success extends beyond Blighty and Luther, for which he also received a 2012 Golden Globe nomination. The well-known actor has also established himself as a big hit abroad, naming John Cena and Keanu Reeves as his close friends.
He has appeared as Heimdall in movies like Thor: Ragnarok and Avengers: Infinity War for the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Hobbs &, Shaw, a spin-off of the Fast &, Furious franchise, was also starring him.
He also acted as Chief Bogo in the well-known kids’ movie Zootopia, as well as The Suicide Squad.
Despite his emphatic rise to fame and new glitzy lifestyle across the pond, Elba continues to fly the flag for Britain. The Hackney and East Ham native has stayed true to his roots and is even working with King Charles III.
He described his participation in a new King’s Trust documentary as “extraordinary.” Elba’s crucial efforts to combat knife crime are followed by this. He has since produced a documentary called Idris Elba: Our Knife Crime Crisis, which he adapted from his extensive campaign work to reveal some of the harrowing tales of those who have been a victim of the terrible crime.
He stated to us about his most recent collaboration with the Monarch: “We must be able to give them opportunities that they haven’t been getting.” We must form these partnerships to help kids off the streets because The King’s Trust does some incredible work.
He continued, “Knicker crime is not just a criminal issue; it affects all walks of life. There is a moral duty.” Grieving families, prison overcrowding, and issues with education. The only way to see real change is to go down the issue’s path.
Elba described how his passion for spreading awareness of the issue developed as a result of becoming a father. People talk so casually about a minimum prison sentence, but the point is to divert these kids away before they even consider picking up a knife.
It’s not just Charles who Elba has worked with from the Royal Family. The man of many talents was also the DJ at Prince Harry’s wedding to Meghan Markle in 2018.
He described it as one of his life’s highlights when he first took to the decks at their Frogmore House reception. In 2019, he even mention dropped some of Meghan’s song requests, including those from Whitney Houston, Still D. R. E., and Dr. Dre’s Still D. R. E.
After making the decision to leave their respective responsibilities, he only has praise and admiration for them.
He declared it “amazingly amazing” and said, “They have a voice and they are using it.” When we’ve met them, they’re just fun to be around, Elba continued. They are a great couple.
He claims that there is still much more in the pipeline, despite the fact that his future antics may not allow him to wear Bond’s suave tuxedo. He is optimistic that his wife Sabrina will be a part of many of his upcoming projects, though.
The actor’s third marriage comes after the pair, who have been married since 2019. Although the couple is not expecting children, Elba has two sons who were in previous relationships: Isan and Winston.
He stated, “I would love to do more projects with my wife, both personally and professionally, about working closely with his family in the future.
We have a skincare line, and my wife, who luckily also happens to be my best friend, wants to do more with her. You also want your children to enjoy themselves. As long as it’s their path and they are engaged in a cause of passion, I’ve always said that I don’t care what they choose to do.
