‘I Think He Wants To Stay’: Amorim Hopeful On Fernandes Future

In light of rumors about a lucrative move to Saudi Arabia, Bruno Fernandes’ captain, Ruben Amorim, said on Friday that he thinks he wants to stay at Manchester United.

With a 3-1 victory over Hong Kong, Fernandes’ opener, with Chido Obi, a teenage substitute, scoring twice, set up United’s game.

During the post-season break, manager Amorim has plenty to think about after taking over from Erik ten Hag during the campaign but leading United to a disappointing 15th-place finish in the Premier League.

The future of key player Fernandes, who is reportedly considering a big-money move to Al Hilal, is foremost among his concerns.

When asked if Fernandes, 30,’s last appearance in a United shirt, did Amorim respond, “I don’t think so, I don’t know for sure, but I don’t think so.”

He appears to be seeing some actions and attempts to alter everything, and I believe he wants to stay.

Amorim continued, “I talk to him, I explained some things, and I just have that feeling when you talk to someone, I think you have that feeling if he wants to stay.”

United were underwhelming in the first half of their second post-season friendly on Wednesday, being beaten and booed off in Malaysia as they put a dent in their campaign.

After being let down by a soft Hong Kong goal, Obi made a smart turn and scored again five minutes later, heading home with a glancing header.

United ended their Asia trip on a high note with a late header from Ayden Heaven.

Before going off, Portugal international Fernandes had a successful opening half at the 40, 000-capacity Hong Kong Stadium, which was about 85 percent capacity.

Despite having the appearance to be leaving Old Trafford, Argentine winger Alejandro Garnacho also started.

In southern China, where it was light rain all afternoon and evening, Casemiro and Rasmus Hojlund were the first regulars to feature.

The hosts took the lead in the 19th minute with their first attack, but Fernandes and Garnacho were in the first half against a Hong Kong team that was ranked 153rd in the world.

Tom Heaton, the stand-in goalkeeper for United, made a poor save from Juninho, who was born in Brazil, who slipped into the net.

Amorim had his hands on his hips as he sat.

Fernandes should have scored when clean through, but he was denied because of the raindrops and the wind.
