Matheus Cunha, the Wolves forward, stated that the club’s winter transfer window was not in his best interest.

The 25-year-old had been linked with a move away from Molineux in January, with Arsenal, Spurs and Manchester United reported to have been interested.

However, he silenced transfer rumours by signing a new four-and-a-half-year contract earlier this month.

Cunha said Wolves had “opened the door” for him when they signed him, initially on loan, from Atletico Madrid in the weeks after he missed out on Brazil’s 2022 World Cup squad.

“I never think about leaving, honestly. Cunha told Football Focus, “I know I have a lot of things to do already, and I’ve always said this was the club that gave me the chance to come back.”

“To leave in this kind of a situation is difficult because they opened the door for me and I always felt like I wanted to give back everything.

” I am so happy to be here. I hope to continue doing good things. “

Cunha said he was” down “when he missed out on Qatar 2022, adding:” It is a little bit of depression. You go down, you don’t want to go to training, you don’t want to do things.

“I had good days at Atletico, but I developed a lot of doubt.”

One of my goals when Wolves first came in was to play in the Premier League, and Wolves gave me the chance to do that.

Cunha is Wolves ‘ leading scorer this season, having scored 11 goals in 23 Premier League matches going into Saturday’s match against Bournemouth.

However, Vitor Pereira’s side are in the thick of the relegation fight.

Asked if Wolves fans can still be excited for the remainder of the season, Cunha replied:” Of course they need to be excited. I constantly advise people to “keep faith until the end.”
