Princess Lilibet, the youngest child of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, turns four today, according to one royal expert, who says it is a painful reminder for King Charles as the Sussexes continue to be at odds with the royals.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have cause for celebration as their youngest child Princess Lilibet turns four. The youngest of King Charles’ grandchildren will be celebrating the special day in California today alongside her parents as well as big brother Prince Archie, who turned six last month.

The children are said to be at the centre of the Sussexes’ world with an insider describing their Montecito home as a ‘happy bubble’. And with Meghan showing off her hosting skills in her recent Netflix series, With Love, Meghan, a carefully planned party is no doubt on the cards for her daughter.

However, Lilibet’s grandfather, the King, will miss out on any celebration. Harry dropped a bombshell last month when he revealed that his father no longer communicates with him after winning a court case involving his security arrangements while he was a UK resident.

The emotional encounter occurred three years ago when Harry and Meghan brought their children to the UK for the late Queen’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations because Lilibet is only known to have met her grandfather once.

And former BBC royal correspondent Jennie Bond believes the fact that the King will probably not see Lilibet for her birthday is “incredibly sad”. She told the Mirror : “Her birthday is mid-week, so I assume it will be a school day for Lilibet, but I’m sure there’ll be time for a tea party or celebration of some kind.

“I’m confident that everything will be perfect. I’ve just celebrated Charles’ fourth birthday by celebrating all the joy, laughter, love, and fun that go along with it. These are events and years that are unrelived, and they are forever gone afterward. It’s very depressing.

Meanwhile, Lilibet’s birthday comes as she features more and more on mum Meghan’s Instagram account. Both Harry and Meghan have carefully guarded their children’s privacy – and even shots shown on social media are curated to make sure they don’t show either Archie or Lilibet’s full faces.

Jennie continued, “I suppose Meghan is promoting the children on Instagram because she is aware that the general public wants to see their pictures.” However, she is being very coy about giving us a glimpse of what they actually look like.

You could argue that there is a fine line between using them to promote her Instagram account and her desire to keep their family life private, but that’s fair enough if she wants to keep their privacy.

She and Harry will obviously have a little more time to pursue their various interests because both of their children are currently students. I believe both of them will continue to put their families first, just like William and Catherine, but Meghan seems to be expanding her projects. And if you have the opportunity to do so, there is no harm in doing that.

Lilibet, the King’s youngest grandchild, was born on June 4, 2021, in California. She was named Lilibet Diana, paying tribute to her great-grandmother, the late Queen, and her grandmother, Princess Diana. She is seventh in line to the throne and unlike her older brother Archie has never lived in the UK – only visiting once.
