I did a £125 Very autumn clothing haul– here’s what you should to buy now while stock lasts

To avoid disappointment in September, shop these Four Very pieces right away.

Shops are in that strange in-between stage right now. You’ll still find summer sandals lurking on sale rails, but if you look a little closer, the best autumn pieces are already landing – and many are already selling out (hello, M&S barn jacket I snoozed on last week). It’s a fashion sweet spot that only lasts a few weeks, because by the time September hits, everyone’s caught on, sizes are definitely gone and you’re left refreshing stock alerts instead of enjoying your new-season wardrobe.

I therefore arrived early. I spent a total of £125 on a Very haul, purchasing four essential pieces that will last me until the fall. I chose denim with just the right amount of retro and a knit that will elevate any oversized shirt, so I decided to build a week’s worth of outfits around them. While they’re still sitting in your basket waiting for checkout, you’ll thank yourself for buying them because they’ll sell quickly.

First staple of the fall are ripped jeans.

The hero silhouette of the moment is flare jeans, which are back in full swing. These mid-wash flares strike the ideal balance between being wearable every day and being 70s-inspired. Because the cut is so flattering, the patch pockets won’t feel like a limited-time piece because they are such a trend-driven detail (designers are putting them everywhere this season). The length looks great with platform trainers and boots, another essential for the fall.

Second staple of the fall are brown tailored pants.

These trousers arrived right away, and they immediately made me want to dress like a grown-up. If you know what I mean, the high-rise, gently flared leg, and neat cut give a contoured silhouette. The brown hue is ideal for autumn, crossing off a major color trend that isn’t likely to end in a while. It also looks great with chunky knits and oversized white shirts. They have a stretch, bonus.

The knitted vest is a must-have for the fall.

Make a vest out of one knit this autumn if you buy it all at once. Sleeveless knits are a common trend right now, from street fashion to catwalks, and Very’s dark green crew-neck version is the ideal way to incorporate them. The hue is very much in line with the earthy green trend of the year, which looks great with everything from camel coats to denim.

Western-inspired denim shirt is a staple for the fall.

One of the most popular trends for autumn 2025 will be denim. This shirt is the ideal entryway because of the embroidery and nods to cowboy styling. For a more sophisticated look, you can button it up with wide-leg pants and jeans or leave it open over a white vest and jeans. It’s a great piece, but I really like that it’s a year-round wearable one.
