‘I am not bitter’ – Mbappe on PSG Champions League win

Less than a year after joining Real Madrid, Kylian Mbappe claims he is not angry with Paris St-Germain’s Champions League victory.

Before joining Madrid on a free transfer in July 2024, the forward left PSG as the club’s top goalscorer but was unable to top European football’s elite club competition after seven seasons with the French giants.

PSG won their first Champions League title on May 31st by defeating Inter Milan 5-0.

My relationship with PSG was over, I stayed put, and I didn’t leave too soon. Mbappe, who scored 256 goals for PSG, said, “I am not bitter, I had reached the end of the road.”

Mbappe said at a press conference on Saturday before France’s Nations League third-place match against Germany that he had to face: “I tried everything, and it had to happen without me.

Without me, PSG’s Champions League victory wouldn’t have any impact. They deserved it, I believe, and I was pleased.

They have endured a lot of struggle for years. I’ve also played there and participated in every Paris Champions League match after winning the first one.

They are “Europe’s best team,” they claim. A team winning a major final without a win is something I can recall.

Following a defeat by Bayern Munich in the 2020 final, Mbappe’s sonhood club won the Champions League title closest to achieving that feat.

For the first time in four years, Mbappe’s Madrid, who were defeated by Arsenal in the Champions League quarter-final last year, ended the campaign without a trophy.
