Hulk Hogan, a wrestler legend, reportedly held out hope for reconciliation after eight years of being separated from his daughter Brooke.
Hulk Hogan, the wrestling icon, was privately battling profound personal sorrow in the months leading up to his unexpected death at 71, insiders have revealed.
Known in real life as Terry Bollea, Hogan suffered a cardiac arrest at his home in Clearwater, Florida on Thursday. Yet behind his towering persona as an all-American hero and larger-than-life entertainer, Hogan was grappling with the pain of a lengthy estrangement from his daughter, Brooke.
The 36 year old hadn’t spoken to her dad for eight years. While the precise cause of their relationship breakdown was never fully disclosed, it’s reported that Hogan remained hopeful they would one day reconcile.
An insider told the Daily Mail that “Hogan’s final few months had more highs than lows.” He always believed he would eventually be able to mend that relationship because there was a little tension between his daughter and their emotional strain.
His sudden demise has reportedly left those closest to him in shock, reports the Express.
According to the source, “He was still very close to his son.” It is unexpected and doesn’t feel authentic to his family and friends at all.
Hogan’s years in the ring were physically exhausting. An insider described his condition as having “the body of a 140-year-old man” back in April.
He had extensive neck surgery in June.
However, insiders claim that his physical decline was most disproportionately impacted by his family’s divisions.
Brooke claimed she had been “verbally and mentally abused since childhood” in a public statement about her parents’ separation earlier this year.
She emphasized, however, that neither party should have been the subject of the allegations.
Brooke and her father did have a conversation before his passing, according to TMZ, and she was able to express her love for him.
Steven Oleksy, her husband, reportedly tried to break the family apart in a number of unsuccessful attempts.
His ex-wife Linda was much more open about the family rift than Hogan, who largely kept quiet about it. In a sincere online video released in March, the 65-year-old described him as a “complete liar” and “sex addict.”
Linda cried out, “I’m just home by myself today.” “Again, as usual, I’m okay with most things, but something happened today. I’m not sure what hit, but I’ve been crying all day.
She continued, “She’s had twins, she got married, she didn’t tell us,” while reflecting on her daughter’s absence. She and Terry had a very heated argument. I’m not sure how that affects me. But she also cut off my exit. She has been missing for almost eight years, which is almost eight years.
“God bless Nick,” Linda said, adding that their son, 34, is still a source of light in her life.
Despite his 2023 marriage to his third wife Sky Daily, she reserved her most vile remarks for Hogan.
“I’ve given him more opportunities to come back and make us a family,” Linda said. “I’ve never put a Facebook [post] out like this with my ugly face and my crying face, but I have to be honest about what I went through in my marriage with Terry. It’s been 20 years and I’m still this sad. Somebody please explain that. I don’t know. It just doesn’t get better.”
After achieving meteoric success with Hogan Knows Best in 2005, the pair’s stormy romance caught the attention of the general public.
Their son Nick battled life in the spotlight, and a collision in 2007 caused his 22-year-old mate John Graziano to suffer permanent injuries.
Soon after Linda started seeing a 19-year-old, the romance ended, but she soon petitioned for divorce.
She was allegedly nailed for driving while exceeding the speed limit in 2012.
Hogan experienced some drama.
When a sex tape of him and his partner, radio host Bubba the Love Sponge, came out, he found himself embroiled in controversy.
He sued the tidbit website Gawker for $100 million, where he settled with billionaire Peter Thiel, who later settled for $ 31 million.
Hogan maintained his boisterous public image despite everything.
He started a beer company and stayed a passionate backer of Donald Trump, backing him at the 2024 GOP convention and even suggesting himself as a possible vice-presidential candidate before JD Vance got the nod. However, his reputation took a hit following a 2015 scandal where he was recorded using racist language, including repeated uses of the n-word when discussing Brooke’s love life.
In the recording, which The National Enquirer made available, he said, “I guess we’re all a little bit racist.”
He was met with boos during a rare WWE appearance in Los Angeles earlier this year, as the backlash continued.
Hogan allegedly kept his eye on Brooke despite everything, according to friends.
