Following Newcastle United’storical Carabao Cup triumph, Eddie Howe will receive the title of “freedom of the city.”
Newcastle’s 2-1 victory over Liverpool on Sunday secured the club’s first major silverware since 1969 thanks to the manager.
He is now in line for the highest civic award that the city can bestow, which includes those who have worked with Jackie Milburn, Alan Shearer, and Sir Bobby Robson.
City council leader Karen Kilgour told the Local Democracy Reporting Service she was “delighted” to nominate Howe.
Fans’ generations have never witnessed their beloved club lift a domestic trophy, and now they can all recall an event that will last a lifetime, she said.

After scoring Newcastle’s first goal at Wembley in 25 years, the Northumberland County Council leader Glen Sanderson announced on Monday that he intended to nominate Burn for the Freedom of Northumberland.
A local Blyth resident’s role in such a crucial part of the journey is wonderful, he said, and it’s a great victory for the area.
The club has announced the date for an open-top bus parade in the city, and celebrations are expected to continue there.
After the international break, the Magpies set up a “save the date” for Sunday’s Carabao Cup triumph.

The winning team’s honors are still stacking up.
Elsdon Burn Walk, close to Elsdon, has been temporarily renamed “Big Dan Burn Walk,” according to Northumberland National Park.
A spokesperson for the Border Reiver battles said it “seems like a fitting place to honor Dan’s and the entire team’s heroic achievements.”
Dan Kennerley, a former PE teacher for Burn, recreated the player’s goal while he is doing it.
Mr. Kennerley spent the following morning at school at Wembley before flying back on Sunday night to watch Newcastle United lift the trophy.
