After the first direct talks in three years, a Russian drone strike struck Ukraine’s Sumy region.
Officials from Russia and Ukraine were required to attend the same meeting for three years.
However, the meeting was not called for by President Vladimir Putin, who had requested it, which led to a shorter duration.
The outcome was a resolution to arrange for a significant prisoner exchange, discussions with their presidents, and pushback from both sides toward a future ceasefire.
The significant diplomatic gap between Russia and Ukraine is not being narrowed, though.
So, will President Putin agree to further discussions to avoid additional sanctions?
Can President Zelenskyy afford to push for peace without further negotiation with Russia as it keeps advance on the battlefield?
