How Kane’s NFL dream could become a reality

Harry Kane, England’s captain of football, has made no secret of his desire to play in the NFL one day.

The 32-year-old Bayern Munich striker stated last month that “trying to play football in America is always something that comes to mind.”

In 2023, he declared, “I know it will be a lot of hard work.” I don’t anticipate kicking field goals like a rocket. There would be a lot of practice.

According to Winter, “If I were taking a punt, as it were,” he would say that the NFL would have him play kickoff in three years. He has discussed it, he has a close relationship with Tom Brady, and it has been done before.

After watching a 2011 documentary about legendary quarterback Brady, Kane became a New England Patriots fan. As a young footballer, he was inspired by the documentary.

He and Brady, both of whom are now retired, became friends after watching the Patriots win the 2019 Super Bowl in Atlanta.

Kane stated in a 2023 interview on Good Morning America, the most popular morning show in the US, that he wants to “definitely explore” the possibility of playing kicker in the NFL when he retires from the game.

Dustin Colquitt followed his father Craig’s example by winning the Kansas City Chiefs in 2020 and playing for the NFL.

Colquitt played for the Chiefs for 15 seasons, recording the most games of the franchise with 238, but he always had a dream to play in the Premier League.

He still has a big football fan in his high school, earning offers for college scholarships.

When asked if Kane could play for the NFL, Colquitt replied, “Absolutely, if he focused on it. “He did it. He would be fantastic. Some of his finishing abilities have caught my eye.

I would love to collaborate with him simply because I enjoy soccer and his enthusiasm. He wants to try this NFL thing out because it’s at the core of his being.

A team’s punter almost always holds the ball for kickers. A punter literally holds the kicker’s job in his hands, Colquitt says, and if you have a bad hold, really bad things happen.

Therefore, Kane needs an experienced kicking holder if and when he begins to practice kick. Otherwise, his quest to become a two-sport athlete may have already begun.

Knowing where the laces [on the ball] are, if you’ve got wind, is extremely important, Colquitt said.

Colquitt claimed that punters and kickers typically think that “you’ve got one shot and you better kill it” when approaching each kick.

They’re only necessary when they are needed, but when they are counted on, they must be money, he continued.

Kickers must kick a stationary ball between the posts for field goals or extra points after a touchdown (PAT), while punters do so with their hands downfield.

In 2021, Kane told Gary Neville and Kane that an NFL kicker’s kicks are “almost the equivalent of a penalty kick.”

Kane has missed just one penalty out of 105 since his World Cup miss against France in December 2022, not including shootouts, in his senior career.

The Dallas Cowboys traveled to Europe to find similar kickers after Pete Gogolak made the NFL’s 1960s debut by introducing football-style kicking and discovering Fritsch, who left football at age 26 to pursue an NFL career.

At the conclusion of his first season, the Cowboys won the 1972 Super Bowl, and Fritsch was given a championship ring despite suffering from an injury.

After playing football in Europe, Garo Yepremian, Morten Andersen, Jan Stenerud, Toni Linhart, and Neil O’Donoghue also became NFL kickers, while Clive Allen, age 35, tried his luck with the London Monarchs in 1997.

The former Tottenham and England striker scored six of his six field goals and seven of his ten penalty kicks, but none of them came from beyond 40 yards, which is where his American football career ended.

The fact that Nick Folk and Matt Prater are still making field goals at the age of 41 gives Kane hope that Brandon Aubrey and Harrison Butker, the current NFL kicker, Brandon Aubrey (Dallas Cowboys), Harrison Butker (Kansas City Chiefs), and Cairo Santos (Chicago Bears) have all played football.
