Fans of How I Met Your Mother are delighted to see their favorite actors recreate a famous scene from the show. Barney Stinson’s actor Neil Patrick Harris and Robin Scherbatsky actress Cobie Smulders were on a panel at San Diego Comic-Con International to answer fans’ questions.
The American sitcom, often abbreviated to HIMYM, aired from September 2005 to March 2014, following the story of Ted Mosby (Josh Radnor) and friends as they navigated their changing lives while living in New York City. In one memorable episode, called Slap Bet, Robin’s secret past as Canadian teen pop star Robin Sparkles is revealed – much to the amusement of the rest of the friendship group.
They discover her hit “Let’s Go to the Mall,” which explains her secret dislike of malls in her later years.
As their fans cheered and clapped along to the song, some even sang along to its “origin” lyrics, Neil and Cobie burst out in a rendition of it on the panel.
Commenting on the clip, which has been shared by Instagram user @itshimymquotes, one user said: “The Robin Sparkles/Daggars side story was the very best addition the writers made for HIMYM.”
Another user complained that “the audio person failed.” A third user continued, “Don’t forget the robot,” referring to her dance moves.
Elsewhere, a Reddit user proclaimed Robin’s secret pop star career to be “one of the greatest twists in television”.
They described the “complete buildup” of Barney believing she did porn while Ted believing she was married. The video’s opening scene features Robin being held. The slap . All in favor of Robin as a Canadian pop star in the 1980s. “Unbelievable”
Another user continued, “And then we later learn she invented grunge in Canada in 1996.” The twists “just kept coming”
Another user praised the inclusion of two of the show’s biggest running stories, the slap bet and Robin sparkles, as one of the best HIMYM episodes.
Straight out of left field, added another user. It’s so lovely. And Cobie Smulders is a joker by nature. I adore her because she is such a dork at heart.
