Jorgie Porter, a busy mother of two and Hollyoaks star, tells us she is buzzing to hit the big screen once more after her maternity leave ends.
With a baby on one hip and a toddler running around her feet, it’s clear that Jorgie Porter is happy but being kept on her toes when we sit down to chat. “My social life is a two-year-old and a seven-month-old, so I love getting to chat with adults,” the Hollyoaks actress says, laughing.
Jorgie, 37, who plays Theresa McQueen in the soap, is clearly a doting mum to son Forest and daughter Peony, who was born last December. She shares them with fiancé Ollie Piotrowski, but, as she admits, it hasn’t been an easy transition. Here, the chatty soap star tells OK! how she’s striking the right balance with her little ones, why she’s passionate about showing every side of motherhood and why she can’t wait to get back to work…

How is life like for a mother of two, Jorgie?
Oh, it’s horrendous going from one to two, nobody tells you that! We are honestly in the trenches of war. It is extremely different, I’m not gonna lie. I think nobody prepares you for the baby growing up and you miss all the checkpoints because you’re focusing on them both. It’s like, “Oh, she’s eating now,” whereas with Forest we were celebrating every moment. It’s heartbreaking in a way, because I don’t want to miss a thing when I love them so much.
Little Peony, how are you?
Dare I say, she’s been a very easy baby so far. I haven’t noticed a massive difference between having a boy and a girl just yet. I’m quite lucky that I’ve got happy babies, but Forest is definitely a tad dramatic, like me. He’s a bit bossy and so am I – but you can’t have two bosses, so I’m navigating that.
On social media, you undoubtedly discuss both the positive and negative aspects of parenting. Do you care about that much?
Oh no, because when you’re a mother or parent at home on your own and you’re thinking, “Why on earth is my baby crying so much no matter what I try,” you share it and your followers cheer you on. Or they’ll say, “That happens to me, too.” I realized I wasn’t the only one.
Because you encourage each other, I enjoy talking about it with other mothers. Everyone goes through the same experiences, despite the fact that you might feel like you’re not.
And how does Ollie act as a father?
He is fantastic. Because Forest will stay with me all day and then continue to say he wants Daddy, it’s a little annoying. I’m like, “I’ve been looking after you, mate”! Although he is excellent and involved, that is fantastic. He is a 10-year-old with a previous partner, so he is more knowledgeable about certain matters than I am. Because this isn’t his first rodeo, he feels more at ease.
Do you give the kids any “me time”?
Not much, gosh. I do more now that my baby is older, but there was no way I could have imagined when I was just a baby. I spend an hour or two getting my nails or hair done, but I then wonder, “What should I do now?” You don’t really relax because you become inquisitive about what the babies are up to and whether or not they’re alright.
Would you be expecting more children?
No, we are now at peace. We have unquestionably chosen that option. Ollie needs to do it because he is getting the snip. If there were another one, I would be like, “There is no time for anything,” which is true for me personally. I want to enjoy my two-minutes without missing any more. No, we are content and blessed, then.
Will you soon make a trip to Hollyoaks?
Yes, I’ll return when my maternity is over. I can’t disclose anything that is particularly unique about going back, but it’s exciting. After having Forest, I thought to myself, “Oh, my God, this is so exciting!” I haven’t been to an adult gathering in a while, so I’m going to cut it this time. On set, I feel like I enter a different life and don’t care as much about the kids. It’s like living twice.
This fall, you’re participating in Hollyoaks’ 30th anniversary tour.
And I’m so excited about it. I thought it was going to be a little sit-down panel but now I’ve been told I can dance on stage. So in my mind I’m like, “Oh, this is my show now!” I’m doing it with Gary [Lucy], Ashley [Taylor Dawson] and Nick [Pickard], which is great because we bounce off each other so well. I’ve known Nick since I first started on Hollyoaks – every day with him is great. We’re gonna chat about backstage things that have happened because we’re celebrating 30 years of the show. We’ll talk about all the best bits, the funniest bits. I’ve got thousands of them.
Any lingering jitters about returning to work?
Never do I get anxious. I don’t get scared when I perform. I’m okay with talking, in all fairness. I can tell it will be brilliant.
The Hollyoaks 30th Anniversary tour will play four special dates in Manchester, Glasgow, Nottingham and London in October. Get tickets at bit.ly/HollyoaksLiveTour
