Hermoso to appeal against Rubiales kiss verdict

Hermoso to appeal against Rubiales kiss verdict

Jenni Hermoso will file an appeal after former national team manager Luis Rubiales was fined for kissing the player without her consent during the World Cup in 2023.

On Thursday, Rubiales was found guilty of sexual assault and ordered by Spain’s High Court to pay a fine of €10, 800 (£8, 942).

After allegedly trying to persuade Hermoso to declare in public that the kiss was consensual, Rubiales was cleared of coercion.

Additionally, according to a statement from the High Court, Rubiales are prohibited from traveling within a 200-meter range of Hermoso and from communicating with her for a year.

Rubiales, who has also stated that he will file an appeal against the verdict, was wanted by the prosecution and was wanted for a prison sentence.

As Spain’s players won the 2023 World Cup, Rubiales grabbed Hermoso by the head and kissed her on the lips as she received their medals in Sydney.

He later described the kiss as an “act of affection” and told the court that he was “absolutely sure” Hermoso had given her consent.

Hermoso insisted in her testimony earlier this month that she had not consented and that the incident had “one of the happiest days of my life.”
