Heather Mills, Paul McCartney’s ex-wife, is using crutches after breaking her prosthetic leg brace while skiing in Austria for her brand, No Bloat.

Sir Paul McCartney’s ex Heather Mills has been left injured after a scary skiing accident. The mum-of-one and Paralympic skier, 57, was in Austria for a work trip when she took to the Alpine slopes in the Hinterglemm region of the country. Unfortunately, the new year didn’t get off to the best start for the vegan activist, who told her followers she was “lucky” to only break her prosthetic leg brace while out on the slopes.

Despite her injury, which left her “swollen”, Heather, who lost her left leg below the knee after being struck by a police motorcycle in London in 1993, was still smiling as she shared a snap of herself on crutches, sporting a bright orange ski suit, with her friend.

Captioning the photo in which she is seen without her prosthetic leg, she wrote: “I hope everyone’s New Year has got off to a great start. I was lucky to just break my prosthetic leg brace on the last ski run on the last day, bit swollen, but nothing broken.”

A spokesman told the Mail about the incident that Heather would need to use crutches for five days, explaining that the slope was empty when she decided to gain some speed, which was a little too much for her leg support.

As the screws were released, Heather was thrown into a crash. Nothing was broken, but she must spend five days using crutches until her residual limb’s swelling subsides.

They continued, “Headlines will have to go back to the prosthetic clinic to have the brace fixed,” adding that Heather was “thankful” the accident occurred on the final day of her trip.

It only takes a few hours to repair the leg, which was not damaged.

“It was just unlucky because the clinic glue the screws,” the clinic said, “because skiing at speed spins the screws over time.” He expressed gratitude that this was the final day of the day.

Heather, who competed for the British Disabled Ski Team from 2010 to 2013, winning multiple World Cup medals as a British adaptive skier, spent Christmas with her partner, film producer and actor, Mike Dickman, 39.

The couple, who met on a train for the first time in 2019, have since been seen together at various public events, including the premiere of The Flying Dutchman in Vienna last summer, where they first met in 2019.

During an appearance on ITV’s Lorraine in 2024, Heather urged singletons to ‘get off the apps, saying: “I don’t really talk about him because I really respect people’s privacy, but yeah, met on a train. It doesn’t have to be a dating app, just go and chat to people.”
