Lewis Hamilton described the team’s season thus far as a “huge step” and called his best qualifying performance at Ferrari for Sunday’s Mexico City Grand Prix.

After a strong performance from Ferrari, the seven-time world champion will move up to third place, with Lando Norris and team-mate Charles Leclerc coming in second fastest, capturing pole position.

Hamilton hasn’t won a race for the team since joining Mercedes last winter, but he has had a difficult time.

Even though three of Mexico’s previous five races were won from third, Norris looks imperious in front of him, which is a difficult task for him to change.

Hamilton is only pleased to see that the team’s situation is improving.

He declared, “I’m incredibly happy to be making progress and being up there.”

Charles has been used to these results for the majority of the year, or at least being in the front, but for me it has been a difficult slog, finishing in sixth, seventh, or eighth, mostly in eighth.

Therefore, we are extremely grateful for the team’s efforts and the incredible support we have received. “

Hamilton continued, “These guys have been so quick all year, and it’s an amazing feeling. This is also the first time this season that both Ferraris have qualified in the top three.”

Hamilton has won 105 races so far in his career, but last year’s Belgian Grand Prix was the last race where he was atop the standings.

The 40-year-old believes that his Sunday grid position gives him the best chance to attack and help his campaign to end with a win.

It is quite dirty inside, not very nice on the inside. He continued, “I’m so happy to be third.”
