Chris Wood, a Nottingham Forest striker, will have surgery to take him on a second spell on the sidelines.

Since Ange Postecogolou’s replacement as manager, the New Zealand striker has been sidelined since mid-October due to a knee issue.

The 34-year-old made 20 goals in 40 appearances for the City Ground last term to advance to Europe.

Wood has managed two goals in nine appearances, which has meant his playing time has been more limited this campaign.

Wood’s type of surgery was not disclosed, but he has been seen wearing a knee brace while watching recent Forest games.

You can never predict what football throws your way, Wood wrote on Instagram.

“From the highs of last season to the current battles and lows of this season personally.” You must have a sense of security.

It’s truly revolting and frustrating that I’ll be waiting patiently. It’s what’s required for my team-mates to do in the Premier League and Europe to come back stronger and better.
