Gunmen Launch Night Raid on Benue University, Kidnap Four Female Students

Following the abduction of four female students from Joseph Sarwuan Tarka University in Makurdi, insecurity concerns have grown in Benue State.
Concerns about the region’s ongoing threat of violence have resurfaced following this most recent incident.
The students’ abductions have raised residents’ growing unease, highlighting the urgent need for immediate response to Benue State’s persistent security issues.
Confirming the incident, the spokesperson for the State Police Command, CSP Sewuese Anene, said investigations and rescue efforts have begun.
He added that because the area shares borders with communities that have been the subject of suspected herdsmen attacks, four female students were abducted at the university building on August 30.
“Some of the students here have simply been identified as Emmanuella Oraka, who was wearing only a wrapper dress, Fola with a yellow top, Susan with a flower top, and Ella with a black top.
A senior staff member of the university, who wished to remain anonymous as they were not authorized to speak, corroborated the incident.
When the students were kidnapped between their hostels and the university campus’ North Core reading area, he claims, they were going to do a night study session.
Meanwhile, students of the university have protested the kidnapping, waving tree branches and demanding immediate action from the school authorities.
Prof. Isaac Itodo, the Vice Chancellor, has yet to respond to media inquiries.
A house officer from the University of Maiduguri and the University of Jos were among the 20 medical students traveling for the annual convention of the Federation of Catholic Medical and Dental Students (FECAMDS) in Enugu when they were abducted on August 15, 2024, according to Persecondnews.
