A governor of Plateau State, Caleb Mutfwang, has signed an executive order that will immediately end mining operations there.
A technical committee that was established will identify individuals who are authorized to engage in mining activities in the state, according to the governor, who explained that the measure is being implemented to protect the state’s locations.

“While there are more illegal mining operations and insecurity associated with them in Plateau State’s various local government areas. And while there are more foreigners moving into Plateau State’s mining regions, which significantly increase insecurity, including, but not limited to, rape, banditry, illegal possession of weapons, drugs, and kidnapping, the governor continued.

The governor further stated that the state government and the federal government should work together to establish the proper standards and monitoring framework between the state, local government, host communities, and mineral rights holders.
The governor further stated that a comprehensive analysis of the state’s security situation will be conducted in all of the state’s mining regions to ensure adequate community development and agreements that address the socio-economic contributions of the state’s host communities.
